Mot sheet states:-

"Nearside Front position lamp(s) excessively deteriorated so that it is not visible from a reasonable distance."

Never had to deal with a gas discharge headlight before, is it something simple to fix?  Can I get a simple replacement which simply swaps over like a bulb or do I have to get a new discharge pack?.  And what sort of cost am I looking at?

I've got a pair of standard bulb fix Xenon headlights and just wondering if it would be cheaper to swap these over, with just a little wiring issue to be sort out?.

If anyone has gone the other way, gas charge to standard bulb, can you advise on what wires go where and how difficult a job it was.

Did the tester mean the bulb or is the plastic lens cloudy

  Ahh... wish some people would explain in plain English (mot man).

Been puzzled why it was put on the sheet and the long explaination reading off the sheet!.  Couldn't see an obvious difference in the headlights.  Just checked again to see if I could find a fault and suddenly I see the light.... or lack of it.  Didn't notice before, I think its failed simply because the sidelight bulb holder looks as if it's come adrift and fallen back towards the engine side, hence why you can't see it at a distance.

.... why didn't he simply say "your sidelight holder looks like it's fallen out of its hole. Or something on those lines... Jezz!  .

Mind you got to remove the battery simply to fix it back  .

Slacken battery clamp bolt, push back as far as, should have enough room

however the tester can only select a reason for failure from a drop down list and not allowed to dismantle anything to have a closer look

Position lamp is the sidelight, not the main xenon lamp.

Agreed ,definitely the sidelight thats failed

It was the sidelight bulb holder. Bulb replaced and refitted  .
