Indicator stalk buzzing!
« on: 29 July 2011, 23:26:01 »

Hi all, noticed that the indicator stalk seems to make a weird buzzing/sizzling noise if pushed to indicate, but not pushed enough to activate the indicator lights (if that makes sense?)

It seems to happen more when indicating left, just wondering if it is early sign of the switch mechanism being on its way out?

Thanks in advance

Let me know if a 'new' indicator sorts it for you cos mine has done the same for years.  ;) ;)

yup so has mine  ;)

i think its just acase of not being pushed enough to make the connection, same as you can do with a light switch in your house , if you feel that way inclined that is  :y

Thanks for the replies, puts my mind at ease now! Should I come across a new stalk at a reasonable price, might try a swap just to see!

Will let you all know!

A new stalk does fix it (although still possible to hold on the arc point, just its much narrower)

To be honest, if its more than 5yrs old, there is a reasonable chance it will have the turn-on-full-beam-under-heavy-braking problem that plagues them.

Not heard about this "turn on high beam under heavy braking problem" before, any further info or links to previous threads?

Cheers

The stalk can be opened (needs "a little" patience) and the contacts can be cleaned, I have done this on two cars and both worked well for years. Of course new stalk is not that expensive but hey, it's a hobby to own one of these "great examples of german engineering"  >:(
