   Managed to get the car in for its MOT today and it has passed with flying colours and with no incidents at all today  
 I know its just had all 4 tryes replaced and the steering idler replaced as advised by vx which if you ask me was probably not that bad anyway   .
 Fingers crossed this car makes it through to next year . My last one was written off two months after its mot last year  
 Apparently the emission were very low on the car and the comment thats a nice looking car makes it seem like even better

well done fella .......having the car mot,d always reminds me of being an expectant father,waiting to see if everythings ok etc; great relief when its all over.if swmbo sees this comparison.........no dinner for me tonight

you are right that is a horrible feeling sitting there just waiting , I was not too sure on the wishbones and was dreading them coming out and saying they were fubar   Even worse the bloke came out and I asked if it was ok he said yes but it would be another 30 minutes until it was ready thats when the scarey thoughts start . like oh no what have they found wrong and how much is this going to cost

There is something with 30 minutes on the MOT.  When I took mine in last time (a retest I think), they were taking forever to check my handbrake.  Went over to check and they said 'its fine but we need to take another 5 minutes for the computerised system'..  Mad.

The time thing is that VOSA, the overseeing body for testing, know that a full and proper test should take 40 minutes or so.  No doubt a certificated tester will confirm the time...  If they try to push through too many tests in a day now, the computer shows it up and they are captured!  Gone are the days of a 10 minute test......

Time limit is enforced by the testers ID card which has to be plugged into the computer terminal whilst the test takes place, system won't let a tester book onto another test whilst it thinks he should still be testing a previous motor.
The actual checking for longer than seems necessary is in case the station is being watched by VOSA, so my mate in the trade tells me.

You can do a test in as little or as long as it takes the adverage time for a full test is 52-53 minutes.  My adverage is about 40-45 but i know a couple of long serving testers that do them in 25-30 mins. Vosa do check on stations that are way over or under but if they cant find anything wrong they leave us to it
