Sneaky garage tricks
« on: 01 March 2008, 20:54:19 »

I know it's not an Omega, but it's a GM none the less.

Today I went to see a Vauxhall Corsa on a 51 plate for my Mrs.  Met blue diesel for £2200.  I knew it was a garage seller before I set off but I thought the pics looked very good on autotrader and I had nothing to loose.

Upon arriving I called him to confirm the address which turned out to be a residential address with a large drive full of newish cars, some of which were covered with plastic sheets?? So this got my alarm bells ringing straight away!

Then as I pulled up and got out my car the seller arrived in the Corsa I was supposed to be looking at.  He pulled up and then reversed it to the back of the already open garage and left the engine running!  More alarm bells ringing now.  He then very quickly blocked the car in the garage with another car, so I had no way of seeing the paintwork in the daylight!  This got all alarm bells ringing now!  I can't see it in the light and now the engine was very warm. Grr  >:(

I quickly asked why he blocked me in so quickly and his reply was that someone else was coming to see the other car, hence putting them both into an electric lit garage.... like you do!

Anyway with all the alarm bells ringing I took a quick look behind the bumper and noticed newish and disturbed components along with very silky smooth paint on the wings.  So with all teh alarm bells ringing and the visible evidence of repairs I walked away with my money in hand!

Just goes to show how crafty garage sellers can be!  Very sneaky and will try every trick in the book.  lesson learned the easy way today  :y

If you suspect the seller is a trader the first thing to ask over the phone when making an appointment is can I" come and see the car for sale?" this puts them on the spot if they are selling more than one.
In this case I think a phone call to trading standards is in order
