Exhaust is black when it should be silver.

The Exhaust on the Vectra I got is black and should be silver, it is the Letterbox irmscher backbox, we tried just washing it and scrubbed it but didn't make the slightest bit of difference, does anyone know what the best product or method is to make it silver again? Cheers.

Is it black paint or soot......wipe it with some brake fluid as a test

It is soot not paint. But have no brake fluid to use as a test.

How about Autosol? T-Cut or a similar mild abrasive should polish it up.  :y

I ended up using Metal Polish that I found for sale in Asda and then 2 weeks after the exhaust was made nice and shiny the engine dies, cos the dealer who I got it from thought it would be very nice to put sawdust in the oil causing the squirty pipe for the chains on my Vectra 2.2 Sri causing them to dry up and snap and costing me £90 to find out he had done that after fitting a new coil pack and expensive spark plugs! GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR.  The Vectra is now in Car Heaven and a Frontera replaced it.

The exhaust did look good though!
