But if you click the link it passes throught the old site to here?

Not on a search .... this is google advanced search ...

http://www.google.co.uk/advanced_search

now stick

entwood wheel bearing

in the top box

and

www.omegaowners.com

in the bottom box

and see the result .......  :)

Easier to get you to do it than try to explain !!

I have done as you said Nige and I get this page

My favourites button took me to the old site, until I deleted it and reset so I come straight here  :)

I often begin to enter omegaowners.com into my address bar and click on the suggested link from my history.  Then cue a quick 'oh bugger' and a switch to the new site address.  This is on my smartphone and work computer, the browsing histories of which are very tempramental ::)

Out of interest just what is the new site address?

When I start up my browser it remembers last sites open, and then click New site.

It is almost like playing a computer game and finding a new "secret level" ;D ;D

There may be some members whose bookmark takes them to the old site every time, whereby if they even touch the site they are shown as logged in for 15 minutes or so. Maybe they are too lazy to update their bookmarks. ::) :-[ :-X

We have a lot of valuable links in Google which currently point to the old site. One of our aims is to provide free information for Omega Owners so when they search in Google it's probably preferable that they don't get a load of dead links, or nothing, as Google start to realise most of the links to omegaowners.com are dead. In the fullness of time Google will have indexed the new site and this will be less of an issue than it is today.

We also have links within the new forum to the old forum - where someone posts a link to a maintenance guide when answering a general help query, for example. Do we want these all to go dead? I don't think so. Not yet, at any rate. Once they are a couple of dozen pages down in the history that might be less of an issue... Of course, in the meanwhile, as soon as a previous member of the Yabb forum clicks on one of these links, they are shown as logged into the Yabb site. ;)

I can see the argument for keeping a read-only yabb site for the moment.

To create a future proof bookmark to the site, use http://www.omegaowners.com. What you have probably done before is to navigate to the site and select "bookmark this page", which will have saved a Yabb-specific bookmark.

I must confess, my bookmarks still link to the Yabb site, although I then go straight to here :-[ :-[

I daren't change anything or clear any history at the moment because I'm in the middle of getting things sorted for the new company and will forget what sites I've visited :-[ ::)

I have only just this week altered my main OOF bookmark so it takes me to this site, not the old one where I used say "oh bollix" and click the re direct link at the top, which is what it's for surely? Previously I would probably show as logged in to yabb for 15mins 3 or 4 times a day as a result I guess...?

Why does it matter so anyway?  ???

Yeah, the old site needs to stay.  And for months/years/indefinately, for the reasons Kevin Wood pointed out.

As of today, we only have 7000 new site pages indexed in Google, compared to the masses of the old site.
