V6 Lifters 3.2 Vs 2.6
« on: 10 January 2012, 13:54:58 »

Are they the same? My understanding is apart from very early V6's they are all the same post 1998?

Lifters are the same across all V6 Ecotec but they changed around 97/98 when a different oil pump which required modified T vents was fitted. Their construction also differed slighty to increase reliability

Basicaly as above.

As of model year 97.5 (from memory) an anti bleed down lifter was used, this in turn was combined with a modified oil pump and a different T vent which controls the oil feed to the head oil ways.

From that point on, no change.

They are made for VX by INA and are common across quite a few manufacturers (including BMW).

Here is the manufacturers webpage:

INA Hydraulic Tappets

The original ones were the standard design and the later ones the anti drain design

Thanks Mark, interesting read that. I have a few in the garage and see on the anti drain have the springs, which i remember pumping clear to get old oil out  :y

Reason I ask is I think my 3.2 will need a new set of lifters, still tappety when hot. (still fine when cold) but a couple of more hearing tests by myself and TB now think its no oil pressure related as if you increase rpm to say 950/1100/1500 ect its still there, but masked by engine noise/sound proofing.

Still to to get this gauge sorted to test pressure though
