I tried to find some drawer liner stuff to replace the missing bits in my ex-display Halfords chest.. have you seen how much that stuff costs?  :o

I expected it to be a fiver, not £20.. ;D

Ah yes, I treated myself to the bigger ones.

Having said that, the old and cheap Clarke one is still going strong and has been pretty bulletproof.
My Clarke one (the aforementioned (now) £100 9 drawer, with the £60 2 drawer under it) have been good as gold (once I made some liners). Can't fault them.

As you know, I'm not normally Clarke Tool's biggest fan. But for the money, I like these.

My biggest concern is would they withstand being carted everywhere, constantly lifted and dropped etc....  :-\

I'm not sure the (current) Halfords red ones would stand up so well  :y though the black ones would, I think.

Having said that, I'm not sure I can pick mine up now they're full of tools.. just call me Mr Muscle ;D

(I say 'current' because there's a noticeable difference between the current red 'professional' range and the older, darker red, 'professional' range.. and hey, when did we get an edit button? [edit] break, please don't ban me, TB! ;D)

Yes I have to say mines a bit of a hernia maker!

I took it to the East Lancs and was branded the tool box self-abuser (jokingly)........they thought it was great to have a ready supply of tools!

I'll have to pop in and have a look then... Need a Top Box for the van as I don't like the plastic crap that's been supplied ::) Then need a couple of other bits (although most of it can be made up from my "spare" tools ::)) to make life easier :y

Indeed, Clarke are more sturdy. But for the money, in the size I need iirc I'll be looking at £500 odd. Ok for industrial strength, but ott for my use.

To get bigger than I have I'll need, well, as posted above. Which gives £270 for the Halfords. How much is Clarke for roll cab, middle draws and top chest?
You'll have to look on MachineMar website, then wait for VAT free day :y
similar items in Clarke premium range come to £370 with vat. £295 odd without vat. But also gives a few less draws.

Do you need the strength of the more expensive ones if it's just staying at home? I'm thinking along the lines of savings made being spent on tools :D

I did that recently - walked into Halfords and came out with the roll cab, middle cab, top cab and three complete trays of tools.. so now I have two of most things and at least one of everything ;D £600 later....

... I really wish I'd taken my friend and his Trade Card! ;D (although most of that stuff was on offer anyway, and last time I used his Trade Card I only saved ~10% on tools - 40% on wiper blades, mind)

I know where they went, SWMBO is at this very moment picking up a drawer liner from Halfords' display toolbox which is missing from the one from stock bought yesterday. ::) ::) ::)
