Are all V6 alternators the same?
« on: 17 January 2012, 23:08:49 »

Hi peeps, as above.

I have a spare sitting in the garage which is off a v6, but I want to get the numbers etc off it to get the correct bearings etc, obviously if it is the same I can get the parts without taking the current one off my car to check.

I've seen the guide and taken the numbers off there but the place I'm getting it wants more info.

Thanks

All 3.0 and 2.5's are.

There is a subtle change on the later 2.6 and 3.2 (different reg as slightly higher current) although pretty sure the bearing size is the same.

No secific idea with an Omega's, but different rating alternators often share the same casing - it's just the number of windings that give you different outputs.

For the V6's the 2.5 and 3.0 were 120A (XA marking, a 100A, TN marking, was listed for some but never seen one fitted).

The later 2.6 and 3.2 had the 120A (XA) or 140A (XJ marking).

Interestingly, the later 140A reg is less relaible than the pretty bulletproof 120A.

The casings etc for them are pretty standard and hence the bearing sizes also.

Plus, the alternators are realy easy to work and and refurb plus parts are mega cheap.
