Is it perhaps opportune to mention about the lid of the canister filter`s propensity to be stuck-fast (due to previous overtightening)....this can lead to bouts of swearing, use of a hammer in frustration and (if the canister`s rubber sealing face moves relative to the engine block) any leak can only be remedied by re-tightening the internal hollow fixing.....which if the lid is stuck, will cause a bigger problem than the leak itself. ;)

A (future) maintenance guide for resolving the stuck canister-lid situation would surely be useful. :y

perhaps we should add here that if a cannister is broken (expensive replacement ) whilst doing a filter change there is an adapter to change the system to a "modern" cannister screw on filter

Which is actually a step back in technology ;)

Either work well, the paper ones are cheaper and, some might say, slightly better :-\

May be but I understand that a replacement cannister for a paper filter is very expensive And changing the composite one at oil change time  is a doddle

if anyone thinks oil will be the end of their omega then i can only suggest help now!! whilst oil changes are necessary i would think that most of these cars are going to be taken off the roads by rust and ungodly suspension repairs!!, i hope i'm wrong as my suspension is fairly new!!
