A whole new way of upsetting the neighbours
« on: 15 March 2008, 21:42:08 »

My Wife bless, her has bought me my birthday present about 3 months early....

Not because she cant remember when it is, it's just i have been on about buying one of these since we first met, she finally decided she would treat me to it.......

Now just to put things into prospective, i can't read music and am tone deaf,  :-? but i have always wanted to learn to play the Sax, played properly the sound great.

So i have had a few lessons and the neighbours have hear notes that they didn't think were possible,  :-/ this could be a long learning curve  ;D

I may bring it to one of the meetings  ;D

I pay £20 an hour, the guy has been playing for 40 years and has a couple of Jazz groups as well.

He is strict, which is good for me as i can be lazy.

Wonderful Sax. Jay; tonight, are you going to be: Paul Desmond, Branford Marsalis or the Blues Brothers?  ;)

I play Jazz piano.....`never learned to sight-read either!

....just hear the 'voice' and enjoy the music Jay.  :y

Emily B learned the Clarinet (similar fingering) and used to practice a lot at home.  :-? When you've heard the same piece again & again & again & ........
She got her grade 8 in the end so not too bad!  :y
You'll get there in the end. :y :y :y :y

Best of luck with the Sax. Surprised no one mentioned Hazel O'Conner's title Track from Breaking Glass, famous Sax intro. Senile old tinker that i am i can't remember the track title!
Also was it Gerry Rafferty's Baker St. that had a cracking Sax intro?
Just popped onto youtube, the track 's called "Will You?"
Hope you play Sax better than i can't play guitar although i keep trying!! Anyone who can play any instrument has an enviable talent 'coz i struggle!! [smiley=2vrolijk_08.gif]

I agree, I have been learning the guitar for 30 years, on and off, mostly off cos I can't play it.  :-[

I have said to myself that if i can get to a point where i can play something like Baker St or the Sax in your latest trick by Dire Straits then i have got to the point where i want to be.

I have tried the guitar and didn't get on with it, the piano never appealed to me, a lot of my musical influence was 80's stuff where there would be someone belting away on the sax in the background.

Is that a tenor sax or was it more expensive?
I think sax toys are harmless
take it on holiday & have sax on the beach
Learn to play properly or you could become a sax offender
On a more seious note (ouch) I like the sound of saxaphones in music especialy andy mackay with roxy music on the track 'blue lagoons' from the 'for your pleasure' album  :y

invest in a mute.
it'll keep the neighbours at bay...

something like this
http://www.wwbw.com/e-Sax-Whisper-Mute-for-Alto-Saxophone-i617994.music

or perhaps more usefully
http://www.sax.co.uk/acatalog/Sax_mutes.html
