A/C Leak??
« on: 03 December 2011, 08:57:45 »

Hi all, i have had to re-gas my car twice in the last 3 months, the last time the A/C ran out after 9 days...I have had a pressure check and nitrogen check done this morning, but no signs of a leak...I was just wondering if anyone has had a similar issue, and what the best course of action would be...It has been suggested this morning to have dye put in and go from there...Thanks.

I'm amazed no dye has been put in the system already. The oil put in mine is luminous green to aid leak detection.

A reputable aircon servicer should always put a dye in when they re-fill - take it somewhere else.

Any bets on the leak being from one of the valves, and that's why it doesn't show up when they apply vacuum or fill the system with nitrogen with the machine still attached?

Maybe, but could aslo point to the compressor. Gas tight when stationary, but leaks when turning.  :-\ :-\

There are a few seals on the AC System, and a couple of valves.
There are two Dowty Washer type seals where the two pipes join the AC Pump. Also one at the top of the engine bay to the passenger side of the plenum where the pipe goes into the bulkhead. It hides behind a rubber dust seal and sirclip.
There are two valves usually with black screw on caps over them. On the AC pipe around the oil filler cap area, the other inbetween the fan and engine. This one has a ball bearing and usually the one that leaks. It can be removed, a replacement one from Vauxhall are only a couple of pound iirc...Andy B has changed his and I am sure he will have the part number for it...
But like most have said Trev would have thought a decent air con man would have spotted the leak :(

Had a very similar problem myself a couple of yearas ago,
Had the whole system vac,d and gassed twice in a couple of months but no leak was found on both occasions with dye in the system, untill the compressor was inspected whilst running, The leak was behind the pump pulley and was very small, but enough to empty the system. Check the pump very carefully.
