5:30 in the morning
Minus 4 on the MID
Gonads opens car door and starts engine WITHOUT making sure the wipers are OFF 
Wiper mech grones then one wiper moves across the window, the other moves about 6 inches 

Looks like i've stripped the ribbed spline that the wiper arm sits on 

Anybody know of a quick fix or am I looking at a replacement ?
Wipers still move so it would seem that the interconecting rods are still in one piece

Try wrapping some aluminium foil around the spindle and then fit and tighten

Wiper shaft is a moderately hard steel taper with serrations on the surface (they don't really deserve to be called splines).

The wiper arm is moderately soft aluminium with a smooth taper.

When the arm is fitted the action of torqueing up the nut makes the hard steel bite into the soft aluminium.  If the arm slips on the shaft it wipes all the bite marks away on the inside of the arm.

Assuming that the hole in the arm is still a snug fit on the shaft you should be able to clean up the two components and refit. (You might need to torque up the nut a bit more than you would usually to get it to bite).

The key thing is to get both components clean so that the serrations can bite into bare metal in the arm.

I agree with what Andy said above. It's done what it was designed to do, strip the 'splind' on the arm rather than burn out the motor. As said above, remove the arm, clean both bits of any loose swarf and refit. May have to do it up a bit tighter to cut new splind grip.

Yep, remove and re fit correctly. Should be fine.

A little silver foil and a bit of torqueing did the trick 
But I think the arms seen better days.

But that will make getting the arm off again REALLY  difficult.
So it's probably best avoided!

Not too dear, as I recall, for a new arm be that from VX or Halfrauds or local factors....
