Installing/buying Sat Nav
« on: 15 December 2011, 17:37:10 »

Ok i've seen the guide to fitting a sat nav,

I've got a 1999 Estate 2.0 CDX, Any ideas where to pick up a sat nav and rough cost?

Is it worth doing?

And fitting a dvd headunit soon, would that throw up any issues?

Thanks Guys

Merry Christmas to you alll  :)

The factory option for prefacelifts is the CARiN unit. Quite easy to fit, once route plotted, very accurate.  BUT it is desperately old now, no map updates since about 2008, and slow to plot routes.

If its prefacelift, and auto, those chavvy DVD units often break when the screen catches on the gearstick in Park.

Nope, gotta disagree, registered `99 makes it a `99. Might be VX`s blurb that it`s a MY2000 but it`s still a `99

Well lets disagree then. GM are going to call it a 2000 car, so who am I to disagree?

Indeedy ;D

Trouble is if GM use sept-sept for their years, and we don't, it gets even more confusing than if we used jan-jan. IMHO anyway ;D

There are reasons as to why they do this:

1) Any changes to the plant for the model year changeover are made during the 2 week summer break, so any vehicles made after the break will be the newer MY.
2) It takes several weeks for a vehicle to leave the plant, get transported/shipped and to a dealership.
3) There is usually a sales stock held on a national basis, so they will start stockpiling the new MY vehicles whilst processing the previous MY stock

Merry Christmas to you alll  :)

If fitting a DVD head unit, then suggest to go for an aftermarket Sat Nav from the likes of Clarion or Alpine, as these will have a composite video output that you could then run through the head unit. Works even better if your DVD head unit has a dedicated NAV input, as will allow the ability to retain the audio in the background.
