Am selling a car and got email from someone asking for Reg,chassis number and V5 number ?
Is it normal for the V5 number to be needed for an HPi check ?
Had a lot of blank V5's stolen in Northern Ireland so I'm just being sceptical or am I worrying for no reason ?

im sure the vehicle reg is enough for the buyer to get all the info!

That's what I thought, just had so many weird phone calls,(From Botswana  )emails and texts, it's starting to get annoying, I hate selling cars!!!!

Just be carefull who it is you give the info to, you can get an in depth hpi and you do need the numbers from the v5,mot, etc but with so many scammers about its a minefield,

no way would i give out the v5 number the hpi can be done on reg number, this is how people clone cars by people giving out information like v5 number, chassis number etc

the first you will know about it is when the speeding/parking tickets etc etc come through your door 

best way is to get an hpi certificate yourself then state that in your adverts

all they should need for full on HPi is the reg number and  chassis number....     no document numbers.....    (if they're a separate thing?  )
