Two little stories
« on: 22 March 2008, 18:16:16 »

Took the face lift for its MOT on Wednesday.....4 new tires (ouch!) but passed.

Story 1

One little thing spotted though, the guy doing it is the most 'senior' and 'experienced' guy at the dealers but, hes VERY picky. He said the beam pattern was wrong (note, not the aim) on the passenger side and so got hold of Tech 2, reset the headlight aim and adjusted the beam aim (Free headlight alignment, I'm not going to stop him!).

I asked him what he thought aim had to do with beam pattern given that the beam pattern is down to the lens and shutter setup. I got a blank look so went over, rolled the beam splitter in front of the headlight (the item used to set headlight aim and view beam pattern), set the level, reached into the headlight.......

........and set the continental dipper correctly!

Suddenly all was good.

Worrying the lack of thought from the best guy in the place!

The service manager then said I would be charged for tech 2 use, I refused to pay for it stating the facts (i.e. it was poor diag and not needed) and saying that if I needed Tech 2 use, I would use the in the boot of my car!

Needless to say it was removed from the bill!

Story 2

Whilst there I was helping the service receptionist with a few ticket description for the invoices on other cars (I am pretty well known down there and always take a box choc's with me  :y)

Any way, I was asked what a rain deflector was, so provided the answer.

What had happened was a woman had brought her Corsa in because the rear washer had stopped working.

The mechanic (the most rather useless one in the place who I would have sacked years ago!) had dived in, removed the rear trim and started checking the wiring......

....the cause was a blown fuse.....the route cause of which had NOT been fixed.

The stupid muppet hadn't even tried the rear washer and listened for the pump noise first and then spent 1.5 hours arseing about with it before then changing the fuse.

What is worse is the route cause had also not been sorted which was a gummed up pump filter due to using cheap screen-wash!

Anyway, this was rectified before the car was collected, she was charged a lot less than the time taken and the muppet's bonus for this month is now out of the window...... ;D

Sadly, she will be totally unaware of my good deed for the day.

With kids the age I have , it would be a little to big a risk.

And they wouldn't pay me the money I would command to run the aftersales despite the fact I am sure I could make good money for them and get the quality levels up. I would start by sacking a few !

They did have a rather nice VXR8 in the show room though so I had a look round and opened the bonnet. The sales man/child said 'thats an australian 6.0 litre V8', I looked at him and smiled and said 'actualy, your wrong. Its a Gen 4 all alloy small block LS2 Chevvy engine mated to a Tremec T5/6 gearbox...'

He left at this point.

I have to say I would quite like one if it didn't have the Essex council estate body kit on it as standard.

Using dealers for MOT's

Strangely enough I do as well, We have Picador Vauxhall and hartwell Vauhall round here. hartwell Vauxhall are completly useless and incompetent.
Picador Vauxhall are brilliant and know there stuff. Can't rate them highly enough.

Used to take the Westfield to my local Ford main dealer for its' MOT and they were very enthusiastic. Think it made a change from the never ending stream of KAs.  ::)
