Hi Guys 
Well new I would be on here soon, but hopefully thx to all the info on here, I may be 1/2 way to fixing my car already, in theory anyway 

Thought I would just run it past you any way, following your advice to others I did the "paper-clip" test,but used a link of cable,being a sparks theres always some hanging about 
First code is 0110 ( 10,1,1,10 )  this reads on your chart as, ( I.A.T )  Intake Air Temp sensor signal volts hi/lo, reading up on it on here, it looks like it may need cleaning,replacing or maybe its just disconnected?  I normally push relays,plugs and fuses first of all, but honestly didn't notice this little beauty hiding under the pipework.
Next code is 0340 ( 10,3,4,10 )  this reads on your chart as, Camshaft Position Sensor, no signal or incorrect signal, reading up on here again, looks like it is prone to failure and so unless there is a cable / plug fault this will need replacing too ?

Thats both the codes I had, the car idles rough from start up, cold or hot, it try's to idle about 1000 rpm,but quickly drops to maybe 600>800 and back again, idles ok for a few seconds then back to 600>800, almost stalling when its in gear,being an automatic at the lights your foots on the brake and obviously in gear, going to neutral helps, so you know the issue. When I picked it up it had this problem, I knew about it so no blame going to the seller, it did run quite nicely on the motor way when cruising but felt "strained" on throttle, on foot to the floor it coughed and spluttered before changing, I didn't rev that high again, but I had to see the effect 
On my last visit to my garage earlier, after the "paper-clip" test, which I did 3 or 4 times to re-check, the car refused to start? I did notice the control light for the engine electronics goes off for just a few seconds after start-up, but soon comes back on, I removed the key and reset the alarm on/off, but still nothing, lots of engine turning but no starting, after a few short goes,I tried to push the beast in the garage, but a small lip at the edge of the garage prevented that, so I tidied up a bit,then tried it again and it begrudgingly fired, so its back in the garage and that's where its staying till Im ready to do some work on it 
So, what does anyone think, maybe right, maybe wrong, miles away or what lol

I'll try and get some in the week if funds allow. Big saving minus the garage labour so alls not bad

Hi Guys
Just an update to my question... I was actually removing the camshaft position sensor as the Vauxhall dealer asked me which one it was, and thought I may as well investigate the "Idle Air Control Valve " in order to check it, as I read a bit about it on here, thinking that if its not the Air Intake Temp sensor what else is in line to be faulty?  discovered that this gasket looks worn and broken along 2 inside edges, do you think this may be part of the overall fault 0110   
 Maybe lucky if it is part of the problem as I was just poking about,what do you think?

No the gasket shouldn't be broken, but I don't think it would necessarily have been causing a problem, not one that would generate a code anyway.

You have treated that IACV to a right hosing-out with carb cleaner since you took that piccy, right?  Do get a new gasket before you refit, pennies from Vx.

TBH I'd fit the new cam sensor and see what faults/symptoms remain, and only worry about the 0110 code at that stage if it's still showing.

Yeah If not snowed in will be cleaning it up before going back on, though as Vx wont be open now, seems not too much rush.

About the cam sensor, now I know actually what Im trying to buy will get that Monday with the gasket for the IACV and fit, then as you say see what happens, presumably these codes will  auto reset  if fixed or do I need to do something else

Ok, so get to the Vx dealer today and got the new cam position sensor ( £51 ish + vat ) and gasket for the IACV ( £2.18 ) anyway it came to £61 ish inc vat stuff. 
Im quite happy with that and straight up the garage to fit, believe it or not, wrong one    gasket good though, so back to Vx dealers and see another guy who gave it the shaky head thing, saying he thinks this is the only type available now, I took the old one with me, now Id  managed to get it off, as it was star drive socket, which I had to buy lol, so he could see the comparison and he thought it probably an after market one, not Vx 
 Offered me the conversion plug/cable kit for their Vx one, but at £61 then reduced to £49 he could see the stress in my face, I politely declined    then I'm told there is another one but not in stock, a quick phone call to the supplier to verify same and sure enough 10 mins later another one is offered, apparently made by Siemens who apparently make the Vx one any way    for £45 + vat including the cable kit. Now I did say when I got there I wanted Vx parts only, but what too do?
 So now its on its way, to be picked up tomorrow, it comes with a 2 yr warranty from Vx, so that's what sold it too me and its not that bad a job to do, so hey ho ! 
I suppose only time will tell whether that was a good decision or not, but if its cures this fault maybe Ill invest later on with the upgraded Vx plug if one turns up cheaper.
Roll on tomorow and lets see what happens

OK, sorry this is a long one 

 got the cam position sensor kit today and went about installing it, spliced into the wiring of the other sensor, out with the old and in with the new, bit back achee but colours seemed to match up so was fairly happy. put everything back ( except the cam cover, broke that getting it off  ) started her up and apart from the normal clanging of exhaust, after it settled down it definitely was not hunting so bad on tick over and revs seemed more stable, so took her out for a warm up to see if that made any difference.  The acceleration is 100% better, no top end choking between gear changes and smoother all round, after temp reached, just under 90 deg or so, I noticed still a bit of misfire, sort of a cough but very infrequent.
General acceleration up through the gears is much smoother, don't think that could get any better, almost convinced that's back to normal. In the 10 mile round trip, mainly M23, I did notice slight fumes in the cab, I may need to get the exhaust checked over as it defo' rattles about at low revs when cold, but didn't notice it after it was warmed up, except after I stopped at my garage and did the paper clip test again, then it rattled like a beggar pulling into the garage after.
So I think it was better, not cured but a step closer 
Now heres the rub, the PP test came back with a strange number which i didnt see on forum when I looked, I am still getting 0340 

new one is 0505    checked it again and again and it defo' 10,5,10,5 or 0505, I did video it on my phone but not time to upload it yet, maybe if you need to see it then I will attempt that.

still have 0110, but to be fair I haven't addressed that yet, so expected.

Apart from that what do you think,     Im going to run it to work for a few days and see what turns up, only a few miles away,but need to test it more.
