Motor Oil.

Hi Guys.

First omega , So now the weather is a bit better i am going to give me omega a oil change.
What oil would you guys recommed?  Does it have to be certain oil?

I have a 2003 omega elite 2.6 V6.

GM 10/40 semi synthetic is favoured by most members.If you get yourself a trade club card its also very cheap. Around £12 for 5 litres. :y

Thanks Albs,  Where would be the cheapest place to get it from, Not got a trade card.

How many litres would i need?   Would  10/40 fully synth be better?

If you dont have a trade club card thats a good price.If you want to get a card,join autobahnstormers club (£20p.a.) and they will send you a card in a few days.You will more than save the £20 the first time you visit a dealer who participates i Trade club. 4x5 litres of 10/40 around £46,all your filters and many other parts are greatly reduced in price.Its saves many of us a lot of money.
V6,s like the oil and filter changed around 4,000 mile intervals,certainly no more than 5000. This prevents most of the reliability issues the cars are somtimes known for. :y

P.S. No need for fully synth really,although you could leave your oil changes a bit longer if you use it.Personally I think its a bit ott unless its used in a high perfermance engine which is being constantly thrashed. I and others on here use GM 10/40 semi in motorbike engines.My bike often revs to around 13,000 rpm, and has never given any problems running on semi synth.
Up to you though,you pays your money,you make your choices. :y

Contact andyc on here for anything trade club priced. See recommended sellers section.
Although mail order might be steep with the weight.
Also see FAQ for acquiring tc card.

Talking of oil change, my CD is due one now (being a good bear and changing at 3k miles  :)) and I'm going to do the breathers now I know how to following my practise run.

My question is two fold really..... firstly, on the bigger breather pipe that links to the breather box, can I change that stupidly awkward clip for a jubilee clip. Would make bears life a lot easier. And do I really need to take the plenum off as in the guide? Can I not simply detach breather pipes, breather bridge and throttle body, clean and reattach? I've even seen some vids where they don't even remove the throttle body and just spray it in. It runs rough whilst the cleaner works through and then settles down fine.  :)

Just some thoughts  :-*
