2.6 v6 cdx diagnosis head gasket.
« on: 21 February 2012, 21:12:53 »

Hi everyone,

I am new to this site so apologies for jumping straight in for help!

I have in the last few days took my omega to a local garage for a diagnosis after experiencing loss of water and sometimes water boiling over in the expansion tank, i also have loss of power every morning when first started which after warm up and resetting a few times will go away ( i have to almost floor the throttle to get it moving ) i have both service and engine management light on which will go off from time to time but always come back on each day.
diagnostics came back with multiple misfire and cylinder misfire in 1 3 and 5 ( maybe coil pack? ) i also had p1700 request front right transmission, p0500 vehicle speed sensor malfunction, and p1300 EOBD error - empty fuel tank?,
p1605 undocumented??.
Then on top of that he was adamant the gasket was leaking.
There is a bit of muck on the dipstick and the water is a little murky but only a little, there is also a small amount of steam from the exhaust too again very small amount.
The car itself does not seem to overheat and the heating seems to work fine, its really annoying as i have just finished paying for it and it has only clocked up 60,000 so far and i really want to keep it!!

I was wondering before i start paying out lots of money wether it was worth another diagnosis as i have seen so many comments regarding oil cooler failure as most common fault over the head gasket?

Any help or further assistance would be greatly appreciated

Thankyou.

Don't mess around with most garages - they simply have no idea on this engine. Dealers included.

If you can get to Stoke on Trent, I'd recommend a member here, Darth Loo-knee.  He'll be cheaper than any garage, and he knows the engine well...

60K miles too early for a 2.6 steel gasket.. also coolant loss can be from many points..
