Was I mad?
« on: 31 March 2008, 16:18:56 »

A couple of weeks ago I decided to change the spark plugs on my Omega. After changing them I had a slight misfire, which was traced to a faulty plug lead, so I changed the leads, no more misfire.

When I examined the leads I came to the conclusion that they may never have been changed during the life of the car.  With this in mind I thought that the dis pack may also never have been changed. So I decided to change that as well (hence the title, "Was I mad", for changing something that wasn't causing any problems)

When I got the dispack out, no plasters needed (which I found easier with the removal of the wiper mechanism).   :y

This is what I found  :o

Interestingly it still worked.

Wasn't mad after all, it was a good decision, prevention is sometimes better than getting an earful from SWMBO when the car breaks down  ;D ;D ;D

It depends on many things.

The bottom line is that the spark voltage would be lower as a result of the above and this may well affect economy slightly, it could also affect engine response etc and you might not realise....until it drops onto 4 cylinders!
