Outside on the drive this afternoon doing a bit of polishing on the Omega whilst helping my daughter to wash & polish her little "Micra". a car has pulled up directly outside a young guy has wrenched the passenger door open and started kicking and punching the s#it out of the
woman passenger.
Not one to normally get involved in other peoples arguments, but this poor woman was screaming in pain and distress. I quickly went over ( only about 5 metres) and suggested to the guy that what he was doing was not the done thing.
Turning to me and leaving the woman alone, the car then drove off leaving the guy confronting me.
He was shouting abuse to me about what right had I to stop him "Giving his
MOTHER a kicking and slapping"
He proceeded to want to fight me, to which I declined - only for him to start shouting "I know who you are, I know where you live, you had better watch your windows and your CARS--- Look out cause I'll be back" and off he walked.
By this time my 3 neighbours had heard the comotion and had also come out to have a look. Seems that 2 of them had seen all that had happened.
About 10 mins later the guy comes running around the corner towards us weilding a claw hammer with another of his friends in tow.
more abuse from him saying he is " gonna do me, my windows and my cars"
I am not normally one to "bottle it" in this sort of situation but the guy looked totally crazy. I got my daughter inside the house and thought I'd better ring the police. The guy was waving the hammer and screaming full abuse at me through the window.
Explained after ringing 999 that there was a lunatic outside my house threatening me with a hammer. Police said "We'll be right there"--20 mins later they turned up -to see the guy walking off up the road.
They did indeed pick both of thses guys up, but it seems that because they never actually hit me with this hammer or damaged anything - there is nothing they can do.
Also only if his mother makes a complaint or wants to press charges can something be done about the assault in the first place.
I am now sitting here wondering if I am going to get up tomorrow morning to find the Omega, the Vectra and my Transit van without windows.
The one thing that I find hard to come to terms with is this guy seemed to have no respect at all for other people in their own neighbourhood or no worry at all for the trouble he may get in.
It was not until my Mrs. said " Well, he's got nothing to worry about has he - because the laws in this country are more on his side than ours"
I have had my eyes opened today and I think shes right'
Anyone got any opinions on this one ? Regards from a slightly concerned, Big Al

PS. on a lighter note - Yes I have just changed my pants !
