Well I've now put £80 of fuel in my 2.6 V6,I've now calmed down with my driving and driving it sensibly and all I'm getting is 24.1 mpg and thats driving on motorway and some A roads.....I can see why now the car seemed such a bargain...What could I do the improve the mpg ?

I'd start with the obvious like giving it a full service changing all filters and fluids etc, making sure breathers are clean. With that mpg I'm assuming it's an auto? These learn your driving style and will change behaviour (like timing of gear change etc) accordingly. This is evident to me over a few tanks of fuel when going from driving like a nutter to smooth and serenely.

If you've just calmed down it might still be adjusting. I only do short journeys and mainly drive my 3.0 auto elite, so by the time I stop it's not fully warmed up so i only get 18mpg ish

Computer is not that reliable TBH .. correct way to calculate is to brim the tank at your regular garage and zero the trip meter. Some while later at the same garage/same pump preferably, brim it again.

Miles travelled against actual fuel used .. far more accurate than the computer

I do a rough brim to brim check every now & again & find the trip computer isn't that far of the mark.

I do a 54 mile daily commute  on good A roads the 2.6 manual returns 27-30 mpg & the 2.2 auto estate 27-33mpg, on a long run I have got 33 from the 2.6 & 36 from the estate, around town both drop to around 18mpg all figures are from "brim filling" don't rely on the computer for accuracy.

My MFL I calculated it several times and found I was actually getting to within 0.1 of what it said

The estate... Did it every time I filled with petrol (5 times in the first 4 weeks) but as I now run on LPG I've not really worried. It was also spot on when I checked it though

Not much you can do in my experience.If you drive them on motorways they can be pleasantly economical for a big car.If you dont,the economy is shite,simple as that.Even driven very gently on LPG mine is costing 21p per mile because it rarely sees a motorway type road.
Keeping it well serviced and making sure stat is operating correctly will help,but wont make a huge difference imo.

ive got a 2.5 v6 and im getting 30mpg average

My normal comute to work is 13 roundabouts for 8 miles and another 5 in the sticks, I get 22ish on the computer....
I need to brim it and do a proper calc'

Thanks for everyones comments,I have certainly noticed a difference going from a 2.0 ltr Diesel 406 manual to a 2.6 V6 Auto..I guess it's the price you pay for comfort.
I'll give it a full service at the weekend and see if that improves the MPG,now where did I put my wallet...lol.

If your rocker covers are leaking in to plug wells this won't help mpg, one way you could get higher mpg is change rear diff, on motor way your's would rev higher then a 3.0/3.2 hence the extra cost on fuel, service first and see

Just got back from a 320 mile round trip picking up another elite. Got 30.5 mpg, quite disappointed with that. I got 34 on my last lOng run. Although it'd developed a small exhaust blow in the last two weeks that suddenly got worse on this trip. I think that's the culprit, but 3.5 mpg?

I've had 33mpg out of a 3.0 manual on a long motorway run, including sustained blats at over 100 leptons.

 Around town kills mpg, in normal driving I get about 25 out of my 3.2 manual.
