Brake pipes....
« on: 23 April 2012, 17:58:02 »

Hello oh oracle of all things Omega.... ;)
can anybody tell me how bad a job it might be to change the brake lines that run under the body?
In my MOT the guy said there was some surface rust on the lines near the subframe, i've had a look and yes there is but I'm thinking, Is it best to change the whole thing or just the part I can get to?
As I say, it's only surface rust but once it's there... I guess there's on stopping it...  :-\

You could clean the surface rust off and grease them... That should keep the rot at bay and keep them in good nick :y

If you want to replace... Complete metal pipes is the only way IMHO. You can use copper and buy complete kits on the bay of e for sub £30 normally

Give them a rub down with a fine wire brush or a stripe of sandpaper.
Imo, get yourself a can of white greese from the local motor factors and use that  :y

A hell of alot easier spraying then brushing  :y

I would recommend greasing brake pipes on any car you ever own. This used to be part of a service some 20+years ago but sadly not any more.  :-[

Also be aware that the brake pipes often look white and furry due to road salt, this often just wipes off.

Giving them a wipe with an old oily rag is very good at getting them clean before applying grease (I use a small brush as the spray never gets quite where you want it!)

I've never encountered this problem. A job for the weekend, and hope I never do. :)

Ps, obviously it will be grease used!  ;)
