My car is facelift 2.5V6 petrol. Speedo stops working and the ABS and tractuion control warning lights come on.

Everything else (seems) to work OK.

Any idea where to look?

ABS ECU is dead. Can be refurbed or replaced.

Post 1998 Omega ABS units are prone to failure. "Bit fiddly to change"

Renewed mine recently....very awkward first time.....but if it happens again, I'll do it in half the time

And by the way, the fault has gone again!!! It has happened a couple of times in the last week, but seems to clear itself. So maybe a duff connection?

Unfortunately, mate, TB is right....my lights came on whilst on route to WM safari park up the M40. Went off all the way home, then started again intermittently until after a few weeks they stayed on all the time ( I couldn't spell permanently) 

You can get a replacement from a different engine sized car ie: 3.00ltr for 2.5ltr as long as the part numbers match. It then needs to be programmed via a Tech 2 to your engine size. Mine came from a 3.0ltr, and TB re-programmed it to 2.5ltr. Works perfect

Edit....should mention if you do go the second hand route, you don't know how long it will last, but its the short term cheapest. I must admit, I still have not sent my old one away to be refurbished which is the best bet, as you do then have a bit of time to save up the dosh after fitting a cheapy.

Sorry to jump in but who do we trust to refurb these? Just for future reference like. Also isn't it strange how they upgraded the ABS to be engine specific yet on the Carltons the same unit is used from the tiddler 1800 all the way up to and including the Lotus Carlton. Thinking about it it must be the traction control which needs calibrating maybe.

Just an update. Not got around to looking at it yet, as it has been fine all week. But today lights on again.
Could this fault cause the power steering to tighten up. Or is that yet another problem. It only does it when the warning lights come on.

ABS ECU affects the following systems....

Speedo  - Intermittent or totaly not working
ABS Brakes - With the light on the ABS is inoperative
Traction Control - with light on TC is inoperative
Warning Lights - ABS light on to indicate failure, Traction control light on to indicate failure
Power Steering - Servotronic has no speed input and therefore defaults to "lowest assist"
