a 2.6 Mig can travel on a full battery with no output from the alternator, assuming using only essential electrics? Got to get the Mig home tomorrow........ ::) ::) ::)
We do have AA Relay cover, just in case, I joined last night..... :D :D :D

Not very would be my guess :-\ flattened my last battery whilst doing a compression test, only managed 5 cylinders before giving up ::) Producing a spark will use a fair amount of current. :'(

15-40 miles depending on any electrical load, and if you`re unlucky a goosed battery at the end of the journey

assuming you will have a shepherd car? i.e. someone to follow the poorly car, simply take a good set of jump leads if poorly car starts to misbehave then pull into services, field, layby, garage(if well away from the pumps)connect jump leads and give it a charge for 20 mins?

I was the 'shepherd' car in the Jeep, unfortunately with it being an auto I could not tow it, hence joining the AA......I stopped using them years ago after pay for year after year without use, never mind, peace of mind.

Well from the caravan (Static) to our local independent 47 miles, fully charged the battery before setting off, that said the light went off a couple of times.............very pleased it is back home without incident, should be fixed tomorrow..... :y :y :y

you can tow an auto, for a limited miles at a limited speed. The AA towed me back when the waterpump shaft broke, causing the belt to jump, bending a few valves...........

Its something to do with lubrication of the gearbox parts not happening in neutral.

Yes, but how many miles and at what speed? if we had got within about 5 miles or so of home I would have towed her the rest of the way, would not have been able to get it to the garage though so would have needed him to recover me from home which would have cost me more...... ::) ::)

Thanks for that, though on the motorway, without the benefit of hi vis amber/red lighting that would be quite dangerous, hence the 5 miles in my thinking, ie off the motorway, or just about..... :y :y

I seem to remember 30@30 myself from years ago reading the handbook of my dad's car when I was a  kid.

IIRC you could tow start older Autos :-\ heard horror stories about it though... MK2 Granadas have alot of momentum at 30 mph, enough to write off whatever car is doing the towing when it finally fires :-X

47 miles is further than I thought  :y

How longs a piece of string.

With a good battery well charged then a very long way is the answer, I have certainly towed one with a half charged battery, lights on, wipers on and blower on low (to keep screen clear) for a good 60 miles.
