I haven't locked my keys in the boot. Honest.
« on: 30 May 2012, 00:08:13 »

I got home from LLF64's tonight. It's been 800 miles since my last oil change, so decided to do another. (Long story, but am doing some short interval changes for a reason).

When I got in, I unlocked the house with my keys (same bunch as car keys). I then went out and did the oil change. (It's still draining now, I intended to let it drip all night, and replenish in the morning)

To cut a long story short, I think when I put the jack handle etc away into the boot, I think I've locked my keys in there somewhere.

I don't think I have had a spare in the time I've had the car.

So. Let's work on the basis my only key is locked in the boot. What are my options?

The car is not deadlocked. Just locked. But my chances of getting into it are not great with the old coathanger trick etc.

Assuming the worst and I have to pop a rear window... and I am now in the cabin.

I can't reach through the rear seats and pull the lever on the bootlid. Why? Cos there's a rather great gas tank in the way  ::)

The boot release button on the dash has never worked!! I have always used the key.

Maybe it's just the switch, perhaps I could short the wires behind it?

Which leads me onto another point - (if anyone has this info it may be better via PM for security reasons)

One thing which may be a saving grace: The bonnet is open still, due to taking the oil cap off to help it drain...

Are there any wires in the loom, leading to the boot release mechanism.... if you get my drift?  :-\

What a tit  >:(

Sorry to hear of your ever growing list of troubles.

I did that once before, but I went and did something unimaginable and reached into a bag that I used to keep in the boot and put the keys in that bag before closing the boot  :-[  Thankfully I have a spare key and a teenager with a free oyster card !

Yep Oops. Doesn't help that my passport is in there and I have a flight to catch :(

I read that Neil_MV6 on the old forum got some very good info on how to open the boot in these circs, but don't think he's around anymore ....

Coat Hanger or steel rule ground out to give a hook works, particularly as you have not dead locked the car, had to do it a few times, over 12 years of Omega ownership...... ::) ::) ::)

From memory no, as it's huge.

Also, the boot is PILED with tools, and the keys, if in there, will be at the very rear.... not a chance in hell....

I know you said that the tank is huge and the boot full of gear, but if you can get into the cabin, is there enough room to use a narrow but long metal bar?

Thread over the top of the tank and push against the boot release?  :-\

Ah, in that case, removing the bumper then drilling off the side air vent rivets won't help? :-\
I remember the thread mentioned. The answer was pm'd to the op in a similar position to your self.

ahhh I like your thinking mr Gixer!

The solution must have involved getting 12v to the pesky boot release, I would have thought!

If you don't have bose, it is possible to release facelift boot with an 80l tank.
