So what would happen if we all went out & bought an electric car with a GPS device fitted that electronically controlled our speed so we couldn't speed anywhere. What would they do then I wonder!!!!

Tax electric cars. :y

They may bleat about road safety, but their no. 1 priority is to raise as much tax from us battery hens as possible.

That's pretty much the long & short of it.

Not so long ago the message was that smoking kills (and I have no doubt it can kill for some individuals) and that tobacco duty had to be constantly increased to cover the cost of treating "smoking related" issues and for some this "tax" would hopefully help them to give up a so called unhealthy lifestyle.

The last time I looked, tobacco duty made the government approx £11 billion per annum.
At the same time, the cost of treating "smoking related" issues was only £2 billion per annum so the obvious question is where was the other £9 billion going?

Now if all the smokers in the UK gave up tomorrow, does anybody here really believe that the government is going to let £11 billion + per annum just walk away?

I'll give Rushmoor Council their due on that one, the only places we have speed humps around here are outside the local schools and on the local (one way & semi pedestrianised) high street.
The actual quality of the tarmac is pretty much the same as everywhere else these days though ($hit).

Nope. They'll put it on beer, of course, because that also causes people to drop like flies, costing the NHS billions, and we're not grown up enough to decide if we want to consume that either. >:(

i remember the test they did years ago with ident speed signs, and would read a bar code on road you were on and make the car stick to the speed limit, but it failed, as it would put the price up on car fitted with it and they would have to put the signs ever were.

I wouldn't worry too much, there's no coppers about to catch anyone.

I have to agree with you Chris. Plus Coppers as I remember them were bigger and made you think twice about being naughty, the coppers of today are leagues apart I'm afraid  :(

there's no coppers about to catch anyone True, but with the extra 50% on fines, how many more speed cameras could they invest in???  >:( >:( >:(

Quite so JM - it's rather like trying to fight a war using air power alone, it just doesn't work.

Boots on the ground - Five O on the streets , that what's really needed. :y
