Thanks for the words of encouragement guys. :y Trouble is, I've been with the company for over 34 years and to contemplate the possibility of finding another job now at my age is a bit daunting to say the least. Still, it was only a few months ago I updated my CV so that helps a bit, but the thought of trawling around employment agencies and possible job interviews is a bit unnerving. With a little luck it may not come to that but you have to prepare for the worst.

Similarily,I had been with my employer for 20 years. I found the best place to find out about possible job openings was down the pub. Honestly,I applied for hundreds of jobs, most dont even bother replying, but talking to people down the pub - someone knows someone who might know someone etc.....

Unfortunately, Bob doesn't go into pubs.

Thats true. You have to come out of the pub to be able to go into it. ;D

Sad news mate, been through it myself and only advice is screw the insolvency service for everything you can i.e no holidays taken , loads of lieu hours owed etc. Plus anything of use in the workplace should be liberated as soon as possible in lieu of a redundancy payment. Good luck with future opportunities!

Happened to me 20 years back and not a nice feeling Bob.

Whatever transpires, Pamela and I wish you the very best of luck at this uncertain time. ;)

32 years. Presume a fair old redundancy package is in order...? Should the worst happen?

In administration - possibly no redundancy and no wages either. Happens all the time.
Then they start up again a few weeks later and carry on as if nothings happened. >:( >:( >:(

Similar happened to me a few years back - altho my redundancy was forced and in view of my position in the company it cost them a lot of money.  I had been in plastics manufacturing most of my working life.  I took the view that my "new" job was to find a job - don't lie in bed, get up as normal and the Internet is your friend!!  However I decided on a career change and set up my own IT business (always see if you can make money from hobbies/interests) which I ran successfully for around 6 years until the retail market went tits up and the price for a good spec box dropped to sub £300!!
Now back in plastics processing (should have retired 1 year ago) and still running a multi million business but now on reduced working (3 days/week).  Stay positive Bob and good luck :y

IIRC; it'll be the Receivers who actually fork-out redundancy/wages in lieu ..... that's what happened in my case.

Also got 1.5 x my basic weekly wage for each year's service, walked into another similar job straight away, and was obviously very lucky at that time.

And an added bonus was that a enebriated voluptuous young lady boarded my late-night bus soon afterwards ..... and eventually became Mrs Seth!
"Every cloud has a silver lining etc" Again, best of luck Bob :y
