So what are these 2.2 diesels like to drive , if you have just bought one are you impressed with the economy and anything you would like to mention for the plus sides to buy one . Economy would i think be the reason for buying one but what mpg would it do and anything that generally wears out ...are those turbos expensive if they need replaced or are they bullet proof , im thinking 40+mpg would that be right

Not driven the diesel Omega, EMD. Forty to the gallon sounds about right for a soot chucker though.

Thats good then , better than my 12-18 around town  so i had a 2.0 dti astra before and although a lot lighter than the omega it was suprisingly sluggish , easy maintenance is a plus on the 4 pot though 

Oh do i recall there maybe a problem with exhaust studs or manifolds ?

Well my 03 GLS Dti is great on fuel and when it wants to it will go granted you have to proper wind it up but sits perfectly on motorway and will sit at 100 all day long and still get 40+ to the gallon I'll report back on the Elite Estate Dti when I have had a drive

Diesel technology is moving on relentlessly. Some modern diesels are well worth a look.

Thanks sam , 40mpg it is then . Not expecting mind blowing performance and economy is the name of the game , watching the fuel gauge go down quickly in mine is becoming an issue but then i only use the car for short journeys . Dti omega with the same comfort sounds good  I presume the older 2.5 diesel lump is not an option to consider .

I've heard on small journeys there just as thirsty as the petrol alternative as its a very solid heavy block but I work locally and I have relatives local with 15 miles and the Miggy Dti still shows good fuel economy

After close on approaching five years of ownership I can't fault my DTi. Injector seals are one to look for, if the car faces up hill & fails to start, then it'll more than likely be these. Though they're not a major job.
Other than that with no cam belt to change & with regular oil changes etc they'll last & last.
I saw one for sale on ebay last week with 406,000, though it did have a new engine 20,000 earlier, but 386,000 still bloody good.
Mine's just gone by the 100,000 a few weeks ago He'll out run a 2.2 petrol any day & still give 42mpg combined

Just wondering about spares availability , also wondering about an estate version like you have for more practical usage ....am missing the estate cars that ive owned esp when you need one like the other week to pick up a washing machine

Spares aren't a problem. Not that I've needed many
