To the tune of £220    Noticed it while taking out some money from the ATM. I Didn't have any bills outgoing this week so thought I would have a nice amount of disposable cash but apparently not. Rushed home and checked my balance online and saw that there were many payments via PayPal to William Hill and one other.

Reported to bank who said they would refund it pending an investigation but also said they may take it back if they they think it was me who made those transactions. Hopefully its obvious.

have you not got a lock on you paypal account mine is setup any thing over £100 have to put a pin number in, and get a phone call from paypal. if not set it up.

Didn't think to check my PayPal account. But this was done in multiples of £20s anyway. Better check it now actually.

Thanks for the heads up, it appears someone may have logged on and made those transactions. I said in my OP that the payments were made via PP (I didnt know this was actually the case), what I should have said was my bank statement showed the transaction ID as paypal and the merchant name. Didnt realise this meant it was made from my PP account. Sounds silly now but I dont know why it didnt occur to me to check.

Make sure for Paypal password is different to ANY other internet account as when hackers steal account details, the first thing they will do is try it on is common accounts like ebay, paypal, amazon etc, as many people use the same email address and password for these.

Guilty as charged .........  Although my PayPal a/c & eBay is now different from others because I had an attempted fraudulent transaction (that PayPal picked up on before any damage was done  )

you can get your money back from paypal but takes a few weeks for them to check what the other account is doing. ie the same to you as other accouts like you say £20 here and there from other accounts. i got my money back when an e-bay iterm took out two payments for the same thing and got an extra £20 for my trubble so its worth telling paypal. as it states its the same as visa card cover.

had something like that happen to me, some american tried to get 350 odd dollars from me via paypal.

With the likes of arsebook, dropbox and others regularly giving out users passwords to anyone who wants it, its a reminder to use different passwords for each site

PayPal have agreed to refund me  . I think I'll close the account once I received the money.

The first thing I did was to report it to the bank who refunded me the money (pending investigation) so I gues I'd better ring them or they will do me for fraud

Question is, if someone has used your paypal to pay william hill, is the accouct at william hill in your name or some one else's, either way, if you were to win, who would get the profit and how would they collect it?

Maybe worth investigating to trace the culprit.

If they are willing to help maybe tracking the fraudster via his IP address might track him down.

If you haven't done so already, give local plod control room a bell, even if it's just to get it recorded on a log in case it needs to be referred to at a later date...
