Mate I play golf with got a phone call from the garage about his wifes Y reg Audi A4.

Service + new rear brakes + cam belt and tensioners £1500.

Thought they were chain driven?

OUCH :-X Even VX dealers are cheaper than that, give him some friendly advice, trade it in for a vx ;D

And is about the same in the JD power reliabilty survey as the Omega.

A numerb of the engine are cambelt driven by the way.... (including the 1.9 diesel if I remember correctly)

A collegue of mine replaced his v6 Vectra-B with a newer diesel A4 1.9 (needed the economy).

Its complaining that tail light out.  I could see the bolt that holds the cluster in place, but can't work out how to unclip the plastic lugs without breaking.  Drivers Manaul says its a dealer job to change the tail light!!

Audi DOHC have chains between the 2 cams at the back of the head, but never replaced.  The cam belt drives one cam at the front.  The new 4.2 in the S4/Allroad/A6(/Q7?) is the only recent if ever Audi engine with a real timing chain.  Everything else is cam belt AFAIK.
