Owned for 1 day now need a new engine advice please
« on: 23 August 2012, 12:00:02 »

The news is not good the engine is totally seized though the mechanic couldn't say why without spending further time or money on it. The vendor sympathises of course but is refusing to do any more than that. The garage reckon they could supply and fit a new engine for £2000! Now I've made enquiries and can get an engine for £350 and he said its 1.5 days labour to fit so god knows where he is getting the engine from HARRODS?!

I'm at a bit of a crossroads here chaps and would appreciate your input.

Have you got somewhere you can fit the engine, a drive way or garage?

If you can get hold of an engine, and have a couple of mates to help (who have replaced engines) it should be straight forward. Took me about 3 hours to relieve my Omega of its V6, so 1.5 days would be about right from start to finish

I have no place to change an engine it's in Sussex. I've had quotes of £350 for a recon engine but awaiting a price on labour only. I'm scared I will get it fixed and then something else goes wrong as I really won't have any money left!

Huh !   Between engine and labour thats a £2500.00 job..roughly.

Cut your losses, scrap it and use the money to get a decent "53"  V6.

Simply daft to spend that sort of money on it...not least such a change quite often results in other costly items needed doing.

NOT being funny or argumentative but a total waste of time and money in my opinion.

There are loads of really good models available for well below £2500.00

I think you might need to back track a bit

Engine totallt seized does not sound very specific to me.  I think you need to press for more detail somehow.

cambelt failure perhaps - that's is repairable

head gasket failure - that too

Did you buy the car private or from a dealer?

So there's no come back there then :(

If you, the car and engine were in Stafford I could help with the engine transplant but Sussex is a bit far

Thank you for the offer of help. I think I'm going to have to sell or scrap the car cash in the tax and try and buy something else. The car is in good condition barring the seized engine. It's currently outside a garage in Littlehampton, West Sussex and understandably they don't want it there forever.

Admin Edit: Sorry to be a party pooper in your times of need, but we have strict rules on selling cars here
