im picking the elite up today  .  how do i know if the bose is working correctly and how much better is it than the normal system  . and what else do i need to check  thanks very much

Bose either works or doesn't, its better than the standard fit of the time, much better. Although compared to modern systems, is not as impressive. New speakers and new headunit would achieve better sound.

As to what to look for, what are you going to see?

What Age? (Elite Spec changed significantly over the years)
What Engine?
Saloon/Estate?

Generally just press all buttons, windows, rear blind (if fitted)

It baffled me why the rear Bose speaker in the estate is behind the rear compartment!

Its probably the most sensible place, in an estate ;)
