Poxy Warning Light
« on: 06 September 2012, 14:14:45 »

Our Omega MV6 3.2 is running perfectly, but the engine warning light (emissions) decided to come on yesterday, out of the blue.  Car still runs perfectly so what can it be?

Any suggestions greatfully received :y

Do the pedal trick test... See maintenance guide on forum...

Don't be surprised if you get code 0420 or 0430.  :y

Did it and got 10 flashes followed by 4 flashes, 3 flashes and 10 flashes - end.  What does that mean?

So how long will the failing cats go on for before they need to be replaced?

It's the pre-cats that it's complaining about and the emissions will be fine ;) The only real solution is to move the sensors but in the short term a cheap EML re-setter will get rid of the pesky light ;)

Incidentally, I have an 0420 come up since I started driving a little more gently but no EML (yet) :-X

I'll be giving it a decent thrashing soon to see if my theory is right and that eliminates it ;)

Never replace the cats.

In this case, move 2 sensors to new places on exhaust. Needs £15 of parts, and bung a local firm a few quid to weld in.

For some reason it seems that only 3,2 suffer this problem, have not yet seen any 2,6 to have 0430... Any ideas why? the cat set-up is the same in both...

My 2.6 did have the cat codes showing when I first got it, also seen lot's of 2.6 Vectra's with the same codes...

The starting cats (pre cats) are borderline. The 3.2 gives them a harder time than the 2.6, thus you see 0420/0430 earlier on 3.2...
