I have to say that, recently, I've been having a bit of a problem with the views of some folk with regard to music, particularly classical.
For me, the bottom line, is whether a performer brings pleasure to listeners. It is an entirely subjective matter.
According to Wiki:
Between 1990 and 1996, Jenkins was a member of the Royal School of Church Music Cathedral Singers and passed the St Cecilia Award, the highest RSCM award for female choristers.[6] She was also a member of the National Youth Choir of Wales for three years,[7] won the BBC Radio 2 Welsh Choirgirl of the Year contest (twice), and the BET Welsh Choirgirl of the Year competition. She was also awarded the Pelenna Valley Male Voice Choir Scholarship for the most promising young singer. At the age of 17 she won a scholarship to study at the Royal Academy of Music,[6] where she studied Italian, German, French and Russian, graduating with honours[7] and receiving a music teacher's diploma.Which, to some, means she's a rubbish singer.

Importantly, as is the case with many of these so-called "cross-over" singers, she has enhanced the appeal of classical opera singing for the masses and, for me, that is to be both welcomed and encouraged. Without the "glamour" of of these people, classical music would slowly wither.
If I could get rid of the snobbery in this area, I would be highly delighted. If you like her singing, fine. If you don't, fine. But she has every right to sing and does so infinitely better than anyone on this forum.

I'm beginning to sound like Sir Henry Wood.
