v6's alternator
« on: 13 September 2012, 18:44:06 »

Did the 3ltr engines all have the same bosch alternator ?

If so, has anybody got the part number for the regulator please ?

Mines fluctuating between 12 and 13.4 volts max so I'd say its time for a change  :(

I think Dbug has just been through the alternator replacement job. Believe he went through the vx exchange scheme. Cheaper and they can give you the right one from the car reg, unlike a factors.

It spins ok with no bearing noises so i'm just trying to keep the price down by replacing the slip ring and regulator myself chris  :-\
Thanks anyway  :)

Have you checked the crimps on the battery terminals first ;)

I fitted a new regulator to my alternator a couple of months ago. I think it would have been £30 for a genuine Bosch one or £20 for a pattern part.

A local old-school alternator repair shop had a pattern regulator in stock so that is what I fitted.

Battery terminal crimps are ok  :y
I'll check the alternator one tomorrow when I jack the car up  :y

The lpg is starting to throw up more low voltage faults and the abs/tc had a "low voltage telltail" fault last week  :-\

Slightly off the topic but what is the nominal voltage that the stag lpg controller is setup for ?

Is that set during initial calibration ?
If so, am I right in thinking that if the calibration was setup with a voltage of 14.5 ish then I loose 1 volt its going to throw up this fault  :-\

Have a read through this thread http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1289737894

There are some links to part numbers at the end but I think you have the earlier alternator :-\

Yep - picking up replacement alternator tomorrow - £100 + vat (trade price).
My stealer is quite good - ordered it without payment, supplying it without exchange unit or deposit.  Relying on me to bring old unit in.
Looking to swap it tomorrow pm - car 2.6V6 F/L Estate.

Its a 120amp unit fitted to 2.6 and 3.2 engines.

Will let you know how easy( ::)) it was to swap ;)
