Some of mine include:
The Fifth Element - gloriously over the top, with some superb scenes. Would anybody like to 'negotiate' with Bruce Willis?
Highlander -  a terrible, terrible film. It makes no sense, the acting is dreadful,  the effects cheesy, I could go on. But somehow, even after 25 years, it's still ridiculously watchable.
Grosse Point Blank - I've got it on disc, but still have to watch if I find it by channel hopping.

A very good friend of mine Alan Fletcher wrote the book, and the story is based around the Who's album featuring all our exploits. 8) 8) :y :y

My film has to be The Blues Brothers, seen the first half more than the second. Coming home from the pub pissed having a bacon sarnie and falling asleep half way thro' ;D ;D ;D

I have strange taste in films, I particularly like war filmsofwhich the Vietnam one I like best. Then on the flip side I also love the Shrek and Ice age films, so much so my wife has bought me all the Shrek and Ice age dvd's to date.

I practicly hate the TV with a vengeance now because of all the ads. The only TV I really watch is the Discovery type channels. But even then I turn it off in disgust when the ads come on. If it was not for SWMBO I would not have a television anymore.

Of the top of my head ,
The Maltese Falcon with Humphrey Bogart , great plot ,fast moving , classic Film noir.
ChinaTown ,Jack Nicholson but fantastic direction by Roman Polanski . Complex plot with a twist.
True Grit , the original John Wayne version . Marvelously overplayed by Wayne showing how he could turn to comedy but with subtle malevolent undertones .
And one other that although seen a trillion times still draws me to the TV ....
Pulp Fiction , like him or not Quinten Tarantino is a bloody good Director.

Most of my favourites have allready been mentioned.

Sadly technology is showing and the older James bond movies dont have the same effect anymore.  Dam busters and Battle of Brittain are brilliant films, sadly the Dam being bust when watching it on TV last time totally spoilt the whole film for me.

Top Gun, Sword Fish, Face Off and the list goes on.

Both of the Gone in 60 Seconds.

Nicholas Cage, Sean Connery, John Travlolta, Jason Stratham, Catherine Zeta Jones (Zorro and Entrapment)  Adam Sandler.

The Outlaw Josey Wales
True Grit (Original)
High Noon
Rio Bravo
Any other good western
Godfather series
A good war film (made before 1970)
Dirty Harry
Blues Brothers
to name but a few.

Given the choice of reading a book or watching a film, the book will win every time. Hence I don't have many DVD's but I do have a very big library of books.

I enjoy reading westerns for escapism and history books, especially 20th century military history.

Most modern populist action films I find very boring, along with poor remakes of classic films (True Grit remake is better than most, but not as good as the original) where the scripts and plots seem to written for children of 6 and under to be able to understand.

Modern Hollywood action / crime/ terrorist film plots, seem to consist of the following:

Opening with big black power and diesel explosion effect, lots of automatic weapons firing, hero not scratched, some baddy sidekicks killed, few more encounters with baddies, lots more machine gun fire until most baddy sidekicks are killed, hero not scratched, baddy plant bomb and you know it is that from the aluminium box, big industrial switch, big red light and big 4 digit LED display, which hero switches off with big industrial switch with 1 second to go, second biggest baddy and hero fist fight, hero wins, second biggest baddy runs off, until hero shoots at him from half a mile away with short barrel pistol, and kills him with ease, number 1 baddy escapes in car, slow speed car / car or car / bike chase made to look fast, with high speed cutting to different film angles, revving engines, squealing tyres, and the original hit the pile of boxes or trash can at the side of the road (I bet you haven't seen that before), stop at big industrial complex for final encounter, number 1 baddy dispatched, industrial complex destroyed by another big black powder / diesel explosion. The End.

There you go, now you know the plot for all these types of modern Hollywood films that will save you a fortune in DVD rental costs.  ;D ;D ;D ;D
