Locating a new radio/cd player for 53 Omega CD
« on: 22 September 2012, 12:31:51 »

Firstly, hi everyone, amazing amount of help given here.

About 9 months ago my original factory fitted radio (VAUXHALL VDO CDR 2005) gave up the ghost. I sourced what I took to be the same replacement from ebay, got it fitted, and since then have had constant problems with battery drain.
I  didn't link the 2 events, blamed it on the bad winter, and thought I had a dodgy battery, so got it replaced. After a few days it started happening again.
Long story short, having taken it in to a local auto electrician, they have tested the car for battery drain, and found it only happens with the radio connected, and have advised me replacing it asap. They reckon that my replacement one was a slightly later one than my original, but can't be sure.My original one was a dark gunmetal to match the fascia, the replacement one was a lighter more metallic one.
Can anyone please recommend a reputable supplier for this part or should I buy from ebay? (I'm pretty adept at having to re-insert the radio code having had to do it numerous times after the flat batteries!)

Would appreciate any help you can give, and thanks.

There`s are an awful lot of rubbish on these auction sites.
The volume - on/switch on mine went on the fritz. so it was constantly on.
Bought a so called tested unit on ebay .......cd failed to play & scuffed to hell
So i ended up swopping out the circuit board from the bought unit into my unit
I was suprised how easy it was to do this, meant i could retain my un-marked fascia plate
