tailgate replacement
« on: 24 September 2012, 00:05:07 »

Hi, Just a quick question. I have been looking for a replacement tailgate for the dented one on my X reg elite estate and i have seen one on e-bay. It's from a 1998 2.0L estate. Looks like it may be same colour as well, but waiting for confirmation of paint code from seller. As my elite is a facelift model, would the tailgate be compatible?
Thanks  :y

The tailgate panel remained the same from 1994, right through to 2003.  :y

Except the GLS has a different covering. Also the door lock motor if different. Well the PFL tail gate I took delivery of was different & parts had to be changed.

Just had message back from seller stating the colour code is Z283, which is Nautilus Blue, not green as seller posted, although he says it still looks green to him. Mine is Z380 Krypton Green and i am now wondering just how much different the shades are and if it is still worth buying.  :-\

Its a different colour, so will need re spraying, if your going to the trouble of re spraying might as well wait for a FL Elite/MV6 Tailgate with the rear spoiler attached to it to come up. IMHO.

Your probably also find a second hand FL Tailgate will have rust bubbles around the rear wiper area, so will need sorting / spraying anyway, something the PFL didn't seem to suffer from.

Edit: here's one example, not cheap though, http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Vauxhall-Omega-Estate-MV6-Facelift-Boot-Tailgate-Z157-/170904369766?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item27cab1ba66

The tailgate on e-bay has the same spoiler as mine, that's what caught my eye when i saw it. The condition is excellent with no rust bubbles in the usual places. May buy it anyway and get it resprayed to my colour. Cheap as well. Under £50.  :)
