Yes, I have read all (most?) the posts concerning a torn/broken door strap but could not find more information to my problem.

I was replacing the whole strap to an Omega (not mine) which was totally smashed and broken from the "inside door"- parts, the attachment to door was fully broken. Well, got the new part and fitted, easy enough, the I saw that two spot welds on A-pillar were torn as well. Drilled 3,2 mm holes and put blind rivets (pop-rivets) which did not seem to bind: when I now open the door the plate where strap attaches is not firm and moves slighlty.

So, finally, my question: is it possible to some how reach inside the A-pillar to put e.g. screw and nut there? What is behind the visible part/sheet metal of A-pillar, why is the rivet not binding the parts together? Should I try bigger dia rivet, longer rivet or what?

Is that a part thats available from the dealers, mine has been damaged ever since i had the car, looks like it had been chiseled out for whatever reason. Whoever did it made a right B@ll@cks of it.

Yes, it's a vauxhall part. If your car had been less than 3 yrs old with less than miles on the clock, this is the part that Vauxhall would've replaced to effect a door check strap repair. I bought it years ago with the intention of doing a 'proper' repair, but then decided to revert to form & be a lazy barsteward and use the repair plates. The part number is written on it, but as Vauxhall never officially had problems with the check straps, it's part number that's hard to find.

Access to the back of it is pants without taking the dash out.

Mine is plated because the bracket tore off some of the A post, and had already been welded up once before I bought the car. It isn't the easiest of places to weld up with the door attached, and mine still has some flex in it

Chaps had similar problems ... my check strap is long gone and the door is now a hinge only  ... the check strap was ripped out of the door completely so even when I bought the repair plates I cannot fit them as there is too much damage to the door itself ... if the part pictured is for the inside of the door I may have a chance ... is it??

Not a tidy repair, but it just about does the job

The larger repair plate ( which is a far better and stronger repair option) that also incorporates the Loom connector plate is still available and I have just bought it (ordered) at a cost of £5.90 each.
The details were Bracket Right V0090458148. The longer Torx scews were V0013155557 at £0.70 each.
Happy days.......now just to get up the go to do the job

Has anyone actually fitted the larger plate ... Does it need bolting in(or welding) ?

I thought if I use the large plate inside the door and one of the smaller plates outside the door I wouldn't need to fix it at all ... does any one know??

Just fit the two plates as you describe. My door has had two (s/s) plates sandwiching the remnants of the door to the check strap for a few years now.

Will try the trouble was that the metal tore so there is less there than should be not sur eif it will hold???
