Oh oh! Bridge bashing? Thought those days were gone.
Even funnier though is the article, which claims that the reason for the accident is unknown  :D

I guess that was a long four hours for you though, especially with our usually cooperative drivers  ::)

What made it worse is that it twanged the bridge so hard it was a B1tch to get out which ever way it was pulled / pushed

"...the cause of the crash is currently unknown..."

but the authorities are fairly certain that the height indicator in the cab says more than 14'10"... ::)

Where's that head in hand smiley when you need it :P

Tie a rope around the king pin handle, release the dog clip, stand well back and pull. Then find a suitably large recovery truck to pull the trailer back from the bridge... sure there is an official way to do it though ::)

I thought they let the tyres down on the vehicle in such circumstances, to lower the height, although it does look like quite a hit. The driver mustn't have considered the possibility of it at all, and hit it at speed.

Unlikely to manage to release the king pin under such strain ;) Plus, the trailer is twisted so not such an easy solution ::)

Did a few Heavy bridge strikes when doing recovery... Always interesting ::)

It looks to me like he got an awful long way through before making contact ??? .. one wonders if frequent resurfacing has made the true height less than stated ?? and if the "slope" at this end has compounded the latter ???

Maximum revs and dump the clutch?

It looks like he almost made it through, so yes, cause of stuckage, not enough speed.;D

Looks like the driver was taking the word on the trailer literally ???:-\

Under-steer is when the front of the car hits the wall, and over-steer is when the rear of the car hits the wall.
Power is how fast you hit the wall and torque is how much of the wall you take with you.

Driver might have a case with that, actual height should legally be 6" more than posted, if the height indicator is 14'9" in the cab, then Council or whoever resurfaced the road could bear the brunt of that :-\

Looks to me like he felt it scrape and then thought "Hmm.. do I stop now or drop a couple of cogs and bury my right foot?"

Still, if a job's worth doing...

Actually, looks like a corner of the trailer just clipped one of the girders under the bridge, so it was clearly quite close. 1" might have made the difference. Was it 15" over the whole area of the bridge?
