Following on from a previous thread...

Not necessarily "favourite", but ones you would watch more than once that you thought stimulated some thought, or had something special/unique/enjoyable about it.

I'll start.

Die Hard quadrology - An Xmas event in the TB household, the DVD set always comes out after xmas. I tend to watch the first 2, and have the other 2 on whilst doing something else. Not a fan of the last 2, the last in particular is a bit dire. The first 2 are in my category of "Harmless Entertainment". Action packed, comedic.

The Terminator - I remember when I first saw it as a teenager, crapped me up. Still, IMHO, the best of the lot. Despite being 30yrs old, the CGI holds its own, so in its day, stunning.

LOTR Trilogy - Despite the subject matter not being my scene, its an massive, epic, stunning piece of work that successfully takes you on the journey with it. Fantastic cinematogrphy, excellent character introduction and development, rushed ending. Looking forward to what Jackson manages with the more simplistic The Hobbit.

Commando - One of my favourite Arnie films. Action? Check. Implausible? Check. Unbelievable? Check. Pointless bird in short skirt? Check. Cheesy? Check. Again, "Harmless Entertainment", and full of brilliant one-liners. Classic.

Italian Job - My favourite film. No further comment needed.

The Great Escape - A stellar cast, all giving career best performances, with a great story (and sadly based on real events). An Xmas essential.

Jaws - Another fairly old film that still manages to hold its own in the special effects department. Doesn't matter how many times you see it, it still manages to build tension. The follow ups are all pants though.

Matrix, 1st one was a great film up until the Red Pill/Blue Pill moment. The 2nd 2 in the series were pretty poor IMHO.

Original Predator, fantatsic. 2nd Predator, awful. The 2nd AVP didn't follow "Hollywood Rules", which was refreshing.

I'd like to add the original Jurassic Park I thought was very good, but let down by poor sequels ;D

Grosse Point Blank.
The Fourth Element.
Ghostbusters mostly due to Bill Murray, but the effects still hold up.
The last 3 Batman films; action/blockbusters that actually have a story to tell, and didn't go with unwatchable shaky cameras.
Highlander - it's a terrible film, but is somehow still ridiculously enjoyable.

Jurassic Park set the scene, but just ended when the plot was just starting. Incredibly annoying!

Rarely watch films, seems to be a waste of a couple of hours and my attention span rarely lasts that long. There have been a few that I have watched more than once though.
Rainman - a stunning performance from Dustin Hoffman, which is good enough to make me forget that dickhead Cruise is in the film.
Snatch - hilarious
The Italian job - everything you could ever want in a film, even after all these years.
Whoever took the decision to do a remake should have been shot in front of their family. :)

Most all of the above :y

Would add Pirates of the Caribbean, LA Story, Munich, Lost in Translation, The Big Lebowski and Clerks.

Also eagerly awaiting The Hobbit :y if it's much less than four hours long, I suspect I'll be disappointed :-\
