Talk to me about diseasel miggy estates
« on: 11 November 2012, 17:21:51 »

seen a few 2.2DTi variants on the bay this week,    amongst other things....    and have been pondering the idea of getting one to use "for work"   and keeping my Mv6 for "fun and giggles and family events"   thus reducing my mileage in  her,  and my fuel bills.....

(let me put it like this,  I've clocked up another 1.5k in the last 10 days , at not inconsiderable cost )

at what point does one worry about the miles on a Dti?   i'm comfortable with 150k on a v6,  but a 4 pot diseasel?

and do DTi elites have the self levelling suspension?

Have seen DTi's with several hundred thou on the clocks, as many of them were used as taxi's.  As always, the key to lots of reliable miles is regular servicing.  :y

Yep, DTi elites have self-levelling suspension.  :y

In my opinion a diesel engine is wrong in any vehicle smaller than a van or 4x4.
Also I'd guess that a four cylinder Omega would be a disappointment...

Why not l.p.g. the Omega?

Remember you can't get 2.2 DTi in auto form Max  :y

But they can take serious miles, but given your driving style, think you would not like the step down in power

Tunnie,    you're probably right,   but i'll have to grow up one day i guess  ;)

not worried about auto really.....   indeed, being a manual might mean i can get the most from it....   i do sometimes wonder about getting an manual box in the MV6...

TILL  i remember the clutch in the senator when driving in London.....

but i don't spend all day every day anywhere near london....  it's mostly motorway and A road miles ,   although there are times when traversing the smoke to get to stupid places is what's required....

Brikhead....

why not LPG the Mv6?

cost,  loss of boot space,  insurance hassles,   to name but three damn good reasons...

buying a Mig with LPG already, now THAT is on my list of "maybe" solutions.....

i don;t want to get shot of the Mv6,    i'm considering ADDING a vehicle to the fleet.....   to use for work.....

i may even get a van.....

BUT, i like creature comforts,  i like Migs,  and they are big enough for almost everything i do....

that said,   i liked the Sintra as well.....   which may simply imply i'm a few sarnies short of a full picnic.,..

You're in exactly the same boat as me Max...

I did seriously consider LPGing my 3.2 Elite estate, but the main reason I didn't do it was because I didn't want to use the car everyday as a workhorse, putting more miles on it and risk damaging it (with dump runs, etc.)

So, for less than half the price of a DIY LPG conversion, I picked up a 2002 2.2 dti elite estate.  Granted, it needs a bit a work, and will never be a minter, but it's got all the toys, and will be a really good workhorse.  Which means I can keep the 3.2 nice and clean.  :y

Cost - £600 approx DIY

Space - Boot space, you have an Estate right? No loss, just raise the floor an inch or so and pop tank in spare wheel well

Insurance - No issues there, as long as its on the LPG register (certification needed) should be no problem.

If a couple of those with LPG'd estates were to post photo's of the raised beds .. it may well show how little space is lost ???

From a cost point of view IMHO its a no-brainer IF you do sufficient miles and intend to keep the car.

Insurance has never been a problem for me ... I get more hassle over the Irmscher kit than I do the LPG

I'm given to understand that my current insurers (Hastings)  are less than happy about LPG vehicles , and Jamie&Chris might  fill you in about how much i despise the entire Admiral related group of useless breaktards....

i have reasons for not wanting to raise the boot floor an inch or more....    largely due to heavy objects and long cases , fitting exactly ,  right now....    and not doing so if raised an inch, due to curvature of tailgate interior.

given that some of said objects cost several times what the car cost.....    you can guess which will win in an argument about pecking order....

but i'm open to the idea of getting either an already LPG equipped vehicle,  or diseasel one,  JUST for work..... and keeping my Mv6 the way she is....

Admiral are off the xmas card list, as expected. They did as they promised, and sent me a silly quote, due to the accident in Feb.
