Yes but you're losing the argument with a load of other people who have actually ridden a bike.

Tunnie - I think I've offered before, but if you want to experience being on a big bike, I'm more than happy to take you pillion.  We wouldn't take it to anywhere near performance limits, or handling limits.  a) I don't know the limits of my bike with a pillion, so ride within what I know its capabilities are, and what my capabilities are, and what the pillions capabilities are; b) you'd need a spare pair of undies ;D

Dont need to experience putting a pair of leather pants on thanks if i need a performance rush then there is a 740BHP Ultima GTR i pop into which embarassed the friend i was talking about before and his Ducati 998. No better sound than a V8 hitting 8000RPM
You friend wasn't using the full performance of his machine then.

Oh really that must be why his chin was on the floor in shock afterwards then.

So you have to ride a bike to understand why people ride them like mad men then do you realise how daft you actually sound? Are you all sharing the same brain on here or something.

You have absolutely no conception of what you speaketh.....

Dont let the door slam you on the arse on the way out.........

I can't speak for Hotel21, and besides, he's big enough and ugly enough to speak for himself.

As for me, however, I enjoy a good debate with people who have some knowledge of what they are talking about....   ....hence, I'll bid you Good Night.

Good Answer!!

So...

You are an expert on motorbikes from an observer point of view....

Likewise as, say an observer in F1 Grand Pix or International tennis, you are now an expert in such things and able to pontificate?

One thing I would suggest to all riders new and old is do a few track days. Don't be put off by the name as they are really well run and seperated into groups dependant on ability and experience. Tuition is also included and they are a very safe and pleasurable way to learn more about your riding and your bike.

I have done boat loads of them and they are great places to meet some great people too. I tend to do more track days now than ride on the road as they are far safer and more enjoyable hence me selling my R1 road bike last week and buying a GSXR750 track bike straight away to compensate.

I would also recommend doing some riding abroad particularly France, Spain, Italy, Germany etc as they are easily accessible and have some great roads. Some of my friends and I have done this for about 5 years and had a bloody great time every year.

Hope this helps.

I would also whole heartedly recommend Bikesafe [ http://www.bikesafe.co.uk/ ] on which I have instructed for more years than I care to remember.....

Once you have a few miles (not that many, I hasten to add) under your belt its a fantastic way to raise your observations of whats happening around you as well as getting you an insight into extended areas which will further expand upon the CBT and make you a safer rider with greater spacial awareness of whats happening (and developing) ......    ;)

And if you jumped on a bike today you are simply an organ doner......

No Scottish forces either but I know that they all partake......

Its worth it.  Really opens your perceptions and horizons and does make you a safer rider.......   ;)

Additionally, I would refer the learned gentleman to the original title of this thread...

Come across this thread and feel the need to add a point of view. :)
Bikers make better car drivers as they have greater awareness and understanding, but I would add that Car drivers education would be enhanced if they were to drive Artics and busses and understand the need to use the full lane, visibility and stopping distances. An ideal situation, but not going to happen, so those of us who drive other than in cars must continue to make allowances for some car drivers who have no thought to the needs of other vehicles. My tuppence worth.
 :D :D :D

The bottom line is that your view of the world is different whether you're in a bike, a car, a bus or an artic. There are orders of magnitude of difference in performance and handling between the extremes.

I have quite limited experience of driving anything other than a car but enough "pillion time" to realise it's clear that what appears to be a suicidal overtake from a car driver's point of view is actually quite a safe manoevre on a bike. Perhaps we should leave it to bikers to judge other bikers' riding habits?

There are clearly one of two bad eggs amongst bikers, but tell me that's not the case with car / bus /lorry drivers/ pilots / skippers too?

In fact, driving as I do a light car with an above average level of poke, I'm sometimes aware that I've left people thinking that I'm a total hooligan after a perfectly safe overtaking manoevre. The fact is, the parameters are different for me. Not as much so as for a biker but I've got better acceleration, better handling and shorter stopping distances than they are used to, and that is what my judgement is tuned to. My judgement says "safe overtake" theirs, tuned to driving a Ciroen Picasso or somesuch, says "rather hooligan".  :-/

Kevin
There is an awful lot of truth in that :y

don't pick on me just cos the Migs broke, you you you hooligan. ;D ;D ;D
Don't forget I also drive a Gallant V6, eats Migs. ;) ;) ;)

Andy - I know, from previous posts....

Do Bikesafe.  It will, if nothing else, clear a cobweb or two and potentially make you think a tad and save you ( hopefully ) becoming a BAMABI statistic.....   :'(
