I had a mid life crisis not so long ago. Passed my test at 17 and loved my bike. So bought another at 45. ZZR600. Frightened the life out of me but what a rush.......glad it was stolen, I could have killed myself. Not so glad the insurance had lapsed. Even worse when they found it and I had to pay the garage to release my smashed up bike to me. You live and learn.
get a zzr11/12/1400 next time,much more fun  ;D

As for your little rantings........

I understand what you say about some people on motorbikes going rather fast but i find in the main it is young lads on scooters who think they are Kenny Roberts.....

But as an ex biker, I honestly think that before learning to drive a car, all people should have to ride a motorbike first.. the reason being when you are riding a motorbike the amount of people that pull out on you is unreal... "Oh sorry mate I didn't see you!" even though your headlight was on! they never really looked properly is the real answer.
Now when you have riden a motorbike and your driving a car, you look for motorcyclists .........
;
Or just ban them from our roads  ;D ;D ;D ;D
I know what you mean about them boys on scooters crazy!!! Wouldnt mind opening my door on a few of them ;D

I get the feeling some are biased against bikers. If you take proper notice of what you are taught on the DAS course, and put it into practice, you will not go far wrong. Once you have some experience under your belt go for roadcraft course, which takes you up a level and helps you to read the road and anticipate some of those idiot car drivers turning without signalling etc, or cutting corners on blind bends. There is nothing quite like riding a large motorbike!

this was proven to be utter lies, which an mp used to try to start the process of forcing motorcycles (and then no doubt everyone else) to have a chip built into the number plate which could be read by roadside devices, when it was exposed as pure fiction the politician quietly apoligised and the scheme was put on ice..........i also find it surprising that a  (possible )reader of christian today, would like to "open their door" on young lads on scooters" >:(

Think I'm pretty much settled on the Triumph Speedmaster...  Lovely looking machine  8-)

Last year I returned to my first love at the age of 58 & believe me it's the most exciting thing you can do with clothes on.
I more or less new what I wanted, so with the wifes permission bought a 1200 Harley Sportster. If you are looking for a not too fast, safe, economical, reliable bike with good resale value you can't go wrong with one of these.
The triumph you're looking at seems to be a take off from the Sportster, so why not buy the real thing. The 883cc is a bit gutless, but for me the 1200 has just the right power/weight ratio. The noise is amazing, especially on mine which is at stage 1 tune.
Have a look at their website & see what you think. :y

You will always get this argument while bikes are on the roads, and how do you expect us to see you when the majority of you ride round like bloody hooligans, and you moan we come to close to you? Whatever you come close enough to us when your taking are bloody wing mirrors off diving between lanes of traffic, i am sick of seeing signs up saying "think bike" if you didnt ride them like you had just stolen it you would be alright and we would see you. There is no counter argument to this it is known fact you see it everyday motorbikes being rode wrecklessly. Also if your that worried about a car pulling out on you cause they cant see you, dont get on it in the 1st place and you will be alright.

If you want the thrill of going fast go to a race track and do it, its what i do and its a lot safer for both cars and bikes

When you've done your test, as Daz said the Suzuki Bandit is a good mid range bike although you'd be advised to start with the 600 & if you go for the 'N' as appose to the 'S' the lack of fairing gives you the retro look. They're forgiving to ride & only give what power they have if you look for it being docile @ low revs. When you get the hang of it it's quick enough to enjoy but you have to rev it.
You can pick a good'un up for a grand & get your money back when you upgrade.
      I would'nt recommend the 1200 as a first bike though!!!!!!!! 8-)

It wasnt about who was burning the camera it was just about the camera being burnt. 2nd it doesnt say 200mph on the M1 before you die does it. go to a track and do it.

Trying not to stir things here, or play devil's advocate, just looking to be educated; I also don't have a clue when it comes to bikes.

But why is it that they drive differently to cars?

Is it because they need to take different lines etc. to cars?

An example would be that they tend to ride in awkward places to spot - e.g. from my experience they ride in the centre of the road on the white line rather than in the centre of their lane which, depending upon distance, places them directly in your blind spot.

I know that man-hole covers and grates need to be avoided (especially in the wet) but this cannot explain it?

Another thing that I do not understand is why, just because they are able to do so, do they squeeze through gaps in between and around traffic, rather than just riding centrally in their lane and waiting in traffic?

I certainly don't begrudge them doing so, and try my best to accommodate them. It just seems they do so only because they can - e.g. In a car, you can mount kerbs/drive on the wrong side just to get round a que of traffic, but it's certainly not acceptable.

On another note, I definitely agree that more focus/emphasis should be placed on bikes when learning to drive  :y
