You will always get this argument while bikes are on the roads, and how do you expect us to see you when the majority of you ride round like bloody hooligans, and you moan we come to close to you? Whatever you come close enough to us when your taking are bloody wing mirrors off diving between lanes of traffic, i am sick of seeing signs up saying "think bike" if you didnt ride them like you had just stolen it you would be alright and we would see you. There is no counter argument to this it is known fact you see it everyday motorbikes being rode wrecklessly. Also if your that worried about a car pulling out on you cause they cant see you, dont get on it in the 1st place and you will be alright.

If you want the thrill of going fast go to a race track and do it, its what i do and its a lot safer for both cars and bikes

pfffft nothing wrong with leathers if for bikes :P

well been pricing up stuff...

CBT + DAS = £750...  That includes test, and if I fail the test, then further tuition and test is free :) (they guarantee a pass)
Triumph Speedmaster = £6199 (but I'll want a pillion seat and sissybar with rear shelf), so be a bit more...
Boots = £150 (YOU try finding a cheaper pair which are classic look)
Other leathers (pants and jacket) = arounf £300

So all in I'm easy looking at around £8000 which isn't too bad I think :)  Got 5k already :D  3 more to go...

But I also have insurance and tax due on the Omega come June/August... bah :(
Might be worth getting a cheaper 2nd hand bike for a year, to keep insurance down.  Plus you may not get on with riding bikes...

Use the training schools bikes and if possible hire one for a few days before lashing out serious money on a bike of your own. Invest in the best kit, it really does make a big difference. Get a proper helmet that fits properly, the comfort factor really is important, if you can't wear it without being distracted it can be dangerous.
As for bikes my last one was a Triumph Trophy 900, looked great without the panniers and when they were fitted it carried enough gear for a fortnight, went to Benidorm, Prague and Amsterdam on it.
After passing your DAS and test, take some advanced training with the IAM, they aren't all bearded BMW riders!!! Up here in Durham the IAM for motorcyclists is assisted by the police, in fact a bike sergeant takes you for your test, it's a great scheme and it does make you a better rider, and when you understand the road problems of those on 2 wheels it will make you a better, more observant car driver. The trainig is about making progress safely, I ended up riding much quicker than I used to, take extra training whatever it costs, it could save your life.

'dangle berries'? I dont think so its true, the only bikes you see not flying round like idiots are the boys on the big sit up harleys and choppers, the rest ride round darting between traffic as fast as you can like your delivering an organ or something and you wonder why you get knocked off. Have a bit of respect for other road users and people wouldnt hate you so much!!!!!

Drivel.

Like the majority of car drivers, the majority of bikers are responsible.  Probably more so, as being a idiot on a bike means severe pain or death, being a idiot in a car simply means hurting someone else.

If all car drivers were forced to ride a bike for a while, then the roads would be safer with more aware drivers.

Stop phaffing around with Triumphs which is a typically British half baked attempt to be a cruiser & get the real thing :y

Wrong again, why the hell should we car drivers have to ride a bike? We grew out of that when we 10 and havnt hit the mid life crisis yet!!! I cant even see how you can deny it as on a day to day basis you see far more idiots on bikes than in cars and as there are a lot more cars on the road think that means the percentage of riders that are idiots to car drivers proves my point, again.

Ex bikers make better drives, no doubt.

Bikers have to think so much more than drivers, whats around them, wind conditions, weather conditions.

I can do my commute in exactly the same style in wet or dry, you can't in a bike, you have to avoid man hole covers, painted white lines as they will be slippy.

You have to think about the wind and rain so much more, car drives can just sit there with one hand on the wheel at 80mph in the wet...

Its a fact, plain and simple that x-bikers make better car drivers.

Damon Hill started on bikes

I think bikes made me a better driver but it does mean I dislike slow accelerating cars
