Presumably, if the air filter is dry then no harm done

Have noticed that my clutch only really slips in the peshing rain. Wonder if the rubber grommet between the flywheel and the sump has fallen out  Shall have a look at the next oil change...

Yep mine is missing noticed it a few weeks ago need to find one in a scrappy because local motor factors dont list one...

i had to go to hereford in truck on thurs night, oh what fun i had, think the yellow coach driver coming other way wasnt too pleased when i painted it brown with muddy water as went through a flood flat out but i was fully loaded with a container of 32tonnes full of hieniken heading to the usa

So if Hieniken made a awful flooded fun road that would of been it!!!

my mig looks like its been in a swamp!! bottom 2ft clean.. ish..  bonnet windows & roof are yellowy brown colour from muddy clay water coming off fields & been flung over roof!!

i was really surprised that it could get threw that depth of water without faltering once engine still smooth even with exhaust fully submerged water was coming up the bonnet & up on to windscreen !! worrying bit was when rear of car started to float & slew sideways even with 200kgs of tools in the boot!!!! the 19s must of acted like propellers pushing it along!!

as long as running and air intake clear and no way water can enter it takes a lot of water to stop them, i had my vectra through a good foot and half on way home same night, nearly shat myself as realized road flooded cause i was doing close on 70 towards it

A tip I heard on another forum that I shall pass on, as it sounded sensible:

If you do go through a deep flood, and water is over the sills, when you get to the other side, stick the heater on full blast and try to warm up and dry out the interior as fast/much as possible as this will help to eliminate any water ingress into any under seat ecu`s and help to dry them out before they fail and potentially corrode over time.

The air intake sits quite low,so if I were you I would check you havent sucked in a load of water.

you'd know if you sucked up water through the air intake ................. the engine would very quickly stop!! 

Yes I would expect the weak point to be the air intake.  On an Astra GTE I went through about 2 feet years ago, got through OK but a lot of steam was coming from the exhaust (out of, not off of).  On checking the air filter it was soaked through.  I think I was very lucky - if a lot of water gets past the air filter you get 'hydraulic damage' - water filling up the cylinders, not being able to go anywhere and breaking the con rods. Seen a Lexus engine written off that way.

Wave height or standing water would need to be 24" to reach air intake, but remove the front pipe from the air box and you gain another 2-3", effectively another foot, allowing for the sheltering effect of the wing/headlight/radiator keeping the water out of the engine bay, just keep moving forward steadily if you do have to stop, switch off immediately, put the ac panel to recirculation, into neutral and handbrake off and out the window.

That way you minimise the chance of getting water in the engine or car and the car can still be pushed out. Don't try to restart it until you're sure most of the water has drained from the exhaust, and that the air intake is dry
