I love the place,can easily spend a lot of time there.Wouldnt actually want to live there 24/7 though.Im too old for permanent hustle & bustle now. Best place in the world to live if your young though imo.

It begs the question, what does London have to offer that, say, Manchester or Glasgow doesn't have?  With the exception of the Royals (Who have homes across the land) my answer would be nothing.  London is artificially expensive.

Dont get me wrong, all cities have traffic issues and crime problems in certain areas.... but London takes everything to the extreme.

I accept I have never spent more than 3 weeks at a time in London, and generally the time I do spend there is in the central area..... but I cannot stand the place.  Perhaps I belong in the country, sitting behind a tractor on a B road.

I too couldn't live in London. The longest I've ever spent there is M-F, staying at some shitty hotel in The Strand.

Noise 24/7, black bogies, and just a general feeling of being unclean. On the upside, I was either pissed or hungover.

I like London a lot, I would probably move back there given half the chance, as a lot of my contacts are in London anyway. However what with all my family being down here, apart from a few aunts & uncles, that dictates that I stay here.

Kate, having been born and lived in that area for the first 17 years of life. that is about the right price for thos houses, and i might add they are huge compared to what is being built now, and i have seen how that area has changed, so much so over the years its mind bogling.
I regularly travel to Fulham to see my pals and to watch fulham play. I can recommend the area as the house prices will continue to rise and your money will be almost ring fenced to coin a term.

The Mrs and I really can't wait, lived here for 'bout 40 years. It''s served it's purpose. There are really good points, but overall London has changed, and NOT for the better. I'll get a really nice place elsewhere, prob West Wales, for half the price of my house.

Agree Kate - I have worked here for over 30 years and no regrets at all. Not everyone's cup of tea but it really has been cleaned up these past 15 years. Depends where you choose to live and visit of course - like anywhere else - there is good and bad.

I used to run a superstore in the Old Kent Road Kate, and I dealt with, I think, every nation under the sun on a daily basis, and that was just my staff team!!

Like you, I really loved that as I had some wonderful conversations, learning a hell of a lot about other countries and their people, as well as having a good laugh on many occasions.  One Anglo-African I knew well and when he came back from going to his parents country, we joked about how good his sun tan was compared to mine. Straight, no hang up, conversations!  But THAT is what is good about living and working in London.  People say it as it is, but keep their noses out of your business, without them making judgement.

I don't know how long ago that was but please believe me that you would very likely be in serious trouble if you said that today, particularly to somebody at work. Even if the other person was ok with it, if somebody heard it said  . . .

That was just 9 years ago, and I still know people in South London today, some black, that I can talk to with no restrictions whatsoever.  If you just treat people as equals and freely discuss and joke with racialism the last thing on anyone's mind then it is all ok. That was all at work in the past, and now on a social basis.  In fact I encountered more racism between certain "tribes", such as Jamaicans vs. Africans, due to most people in the international cultural situation that exists in South London just get on and "live and let live".

If you are racist by nature it is noted in those parts and things can be very different!! 

I never have a problem because I am not racist, just another child of God.  

You are only treated as you treat other people.
