A tad harsh ...

Some folks actually do take their responsibilities seriously, and feel shame when their own personal standards slip. Others react badly to public humiliation. Some will react equally to both.

It is quite possible that this lady had a great sense of pride and felt she had let herself, and possibly others, down - to the extent that she was unable to "live with herself"

I'm no mind reader, or qualified pshychiatrist, so I cannot even start to think how bad she felt to do this thing ...  but I feel certain that "not firing on all 4" is a lovely "sound bite" that bears no resemblance to the truth whatsoever, and would cause her poor family even more upset.

However, you are entitled to your own opinion and views .. just as I am.

I agree with you Entwood. Hence my comment on the original thread about "it is to be hoped she had supportive management". Some people go through life not giving a damn about their actions whilst others are very sensitive. Good management know their staff.

unfortunatly Varche there are too many people 'who dont give a damn' as for the hospital i think they were supportive as they did say in a news article a few days ago that the nurse had not been disiplined and never was going to be as she did'nt really do much wrong apart from puttng a call through which she was paid to do

Desperately sad, but no job is worth taking that seriously that the consequences can't be lived with.

Irispinsible behaviour only became so AFTER the poor lady took her own life. And I doubt anyone would have foreseen this, or anything remotely similar.

Being honest, ok, harshly honest, I can't help but wonder if there where other issues, more serious issues, going on in the back ground.
Just a personal view. ...and probably one that doesn't take in all the facts.

In "our" eyes perhaps .. but this lady was Asian, from the Indian Sub-continent, and AFAIK from the "Northern" part of India.

The culture there is vastly different to ours, and "pride" and "honour" seem to mean a great deal more to them than us at times.

Look at the families who kill their own children/wives/husbands when they think the "family" has been dishonoured ...

Now, please don't think I condone such activities, I certainly do not ... I merely use them to show how, if this poor woman thought she had either dishonoured her family, or the Royal Family, or herself, then given her culture, she may have been so distraught that she saw this as the only solution.

Far too many folks, everywhere, seem to judge everyone by a set of standards that don't apply half the time... be it western culture, different era's, or just sometimes different upbringing....

the problem is in australia at the moment is not one of the DJ have said sorry and that as now led to both of them being moved to a safe house,according to a friend of mine who is in oz at the moment there is more of an outcry there due too the DJ actions than there is here!!

Not sure where you get that from .. I saw them on TV a few days back and they couldn't have been more sorry, in fact the female couldn't continue as she was in tears throughout the second interview.

TBH, they're probably in more trouble for the breaches of Aussie law regarding recording and broadcasting without permission. I can't understand how they thought it a good idea but, even so, they have been devastated in every interview I've seen.

It strikes me as amazing that not a single person at the radio station thought it a bad idea to play a recorded call, not even live! They could have gotten so much positive publicity by not playing it but highlighting the lapse in security arrangements

OK, it might not have made any difference to the nurse in question. As Entwood says, she's from a culture that treat shame very, very seriously But equally, it might have

*I know difficulties in pregnancy are never funny, but the media whipped up a huge fuss about this - I tend to be quite blase about my idiocy and mistakes, but having it reported for 40 million people to read is quite a pressure.
