Insignia - warranty setback
« on: 24 January 2013, 08:43:08 »

I have found a good spec Insignia Tourer 62 plate for a decent price and reasonable trade in value on Signum. However I was not aware the lifetime warranty drops to 3 years 60,000 miles when a vehicle changes hands - bit of a bummer to be honest.

Also car insurance is £100 more than Signum.

I never understood why the likely hood of a warranty claim would increase purely because the vehicle changes owners?

Unless its extended warranty. And who trusts those. :-\

I don't think it does - what it tells me is that Vauxhall don't expect the first owner to keep the car more than 60k and that over 60k the likelihood of crippling warranty payouts is enormous; so the change of owner thing is just a handy way to get out of the warranty obligation while simultaneously using a 'lifetime' warranty as a selling point to new car buyers. If you see what I mean?

Ah, so lifetime of the first ownership. Not the lifetime of the car?

Mmmnah, still don't get it. ;D

Its very simple, the first owner gets ten years warranty, also you can get a ten year one by buying ex Vx-Fleet cars (check with dealer).

And it does make perfect sense as the warranty is there to encourage new car sales from Vx, why would Vx be interested in cars which are not effectively being bought from them?

Marketing dear people, marketing.  :y

So nothing at all to do with covering Manufacturing defects for the duration then?

Silly me. ::)

They are covered with the three year one, those who buy from Vx get a 'free' extended warranty to 10 years.

Its a bit like John Lewis with TV's  ;D ;D ;D

Yup, it's only a warranty against something that-cannot-be-wriggled-out-of breaking, rather than a guarantee that nothing will break ::)

Kia's 7 year warranty is transferable.

The correlation you need to look at (which now becomes clearer to me) is residual values in first 2 years. So the offer of a good price on a 3000 mile 62 plate obviously factors in the market discounting reflecting no 10 year warranty.

I can understand the argument for the 60000 mile issue transfer but the position with vehicles less than 1 year old is barmy.

I will have to investigate the Partners Programme via a family member.

Will check if nearly new Kia's - Sportage , Sorrentos are holding values.

The Kia warranty is only good for 100k, regardless of age. After 100k or 7 years they pretty much guarantee that things will break, alot :-\

Kia wouldn't repair my mate's under warranty...  ...mind you, it was about a foot shorter than it left the factory ;D

//Edit: It was Hyundai, not Kia. Far East rubbish still.

Took it up with Luton - in theory rule is that a pre reg with less than 200 miles and a demonstrator with less than 3000 qualify for Lifetime warranty.

As stated above....effectively when buying a car from Vx (and not an ex-lease compnay/hire car company etc) you get the extended warranty as an add on (sales insentive).

Pre-reg is still considered new and the dealers rent the demonstartors from vx.

Also the Network Q dealers who buy the ex Vx management cars for re-sale also get to pass on the 10 year warranty.

The Vauxhall Lifetime warranty also has a ceiling of 100k if I remember correctly :-\

Exactly correct - when I questioned Perry's they said no-one keeps them more than 3 years. I had to say I have had Omega for 11 years, Signum for coming up 6 years and into 4th year of Phaeton.

Wife has been to see 62 plate and has come back mumbling over the phone about not happy with the rear wiper!!! which I have not bothered to follow up yet. Sounds like a deal breaker.

Other comment from dealer was that they have to oberve a policy on trade in values on vehicles over 100,000 miles (so deep/ disproportionate discount presumably)  so Omega was only  worth £300 to them and Signum would drop like a stone if I put any more miles on it.
